Christmas Throwing Hawks

If you ever watch Top Shot on the HISTORY Channel you’ll see all kinds of weapons. From long rifles to rocks! When they break out the Tomahawks I grin from ear to ear. So since it is Christmas time, I HAD to add some to my Christmas Wishlist and the missus came through!

I’ve been telling friends that it is so satisfying to hear that THUNK when the hawk sticks. I have not been able to hone my technique. Sometimes I can stick all three, like above, and there are times where nothing sticks for several throws. It has been so much fun and I hope the fun never wears out!

My Secret Santa Wants me to Carve Something

Reddit.com’s slogan is “The Front Page of the Internet”, and it could be very true. It is a very large website with tons and tons of content. Several years ago, some Reddit users started an online Secret Santa where users would be randomly matched to each other to buy gifts for each other. Since Reddit is so large, the Secret Santa turned into the largest Gift Exchange ever by surpassing Guinness records.

This will be my seventh year being a part of this gift exchange. Over the years I have received some great gifts. Etched glasses, model cars, phone chargers, and even Black’s Brisket.

When you sign up you are given the opportunity to fill out a profile so that your Secret Santa can use to determine what to buy. I don’t fill out this profile. I simply input my Social Media profiles and let them decide what to get me by stalking me! It’s worked out great! This year was no different.

Pictured are two gifts I received from my giftee. The book that introduces me to Wood Carving arrived first.┬áIt’s titled The Beginner’s Handbook to Woodcarving. I was slightly overwhelmed because it requires some hand tools I didn’t have BUT to my extreme surprise a set of hand carving tools arrived the very next day! I can’t wait to try it out. I’m hoping to post some carves here as I try them.

You can get a copy of the book for yourself here.

Great Pizza Doesn’t Have To Be Rectangular

I like pizza. Most people do. I had a friend in elementary that didn’t like it. Rectangular school cafeteria pizza is the thing of memories! I used to give Arturo the Grandma Cookies my mom packed for me in my lunch box in exchange for the pizza he didn’t like. That’s when my bully turned into a best friend.

Nowadays I eat my pizza like most non-chicagoans, pyramid slices.

My favorite pizza joint is a small place in Brownsville called Jersey’s Pizza. It’s not a fancy place. No brick, wood burning oven here. From what I’ve seen, their oven is nothing special. Some might say the pizza is not that special but I fell in love with it immediately after my first bite. Maybe it’s the grease, as you can see in the pic!

A few of us after church a had a fun discussion about greasy foods. The greasier the better was the resounding sentiment!

If you find yourself in Brownsville, or if you just want to try a new pizza spot give Jersey’s Pizza a shot.

I had Hot Dogs at a Mexican Joint..

Kramer had an internal alarm clock. I have an internal food/restaurant database. A few weeks ago I overheard my co-workers talking about a Mexican Restaurant in Weslaco,TX. I wasn’t in the conversation (maybe I was actually doing work!) but I heard them say it was so good, it was on International Blvd, and that you can sit outside if the weather is nice.

As I left work, I asked for the name and saved it in the database. The name was Nana’s Taqueria.

So, as the missus and I asked ourselves many, many times where we each wanted to eat my brain ran a query and out came Nana’s Taqueria. Off to Weslaco we went. Nana’s is pretty easy to find on South International Blvd. Look for the house looking restaurant with lots of lights.

It was a nice night out so we sat outside .It’s very homey because it must’ve been a home at one time. Unfortunately, I was not really wanting Mexican but the Mexican Hot Dogs sounded great! Bacon wrapped, topped with diced tomatoes, cilantro, onions, and guacamole. Hold the onions please!
Very good dogs! I never would have guessed cilantro would be the perfect topping on a hot dog, but it was so good. I want cilantro on all hot dogs now!

Would definitely go back there and would recommend!

Oh ley!

Someone is very smart at Nana’s. Sombreros are strategically placed throughout the backyard to entice the selfie generation.
