ONE reason (excuse) I have not blogged is that I have to move this blog. Google is doing away with FTP blogs. That might not mean much to some of you but if you are curious here is the link that explains what is going on. LINK .

That in no way affects any of my regular readers. In other words, if your blog is linked to the right on my blog, don't worry about it.

As much as I love all things Google, I am considering ditching Blogger in favor for WordPress. Why? For one, I was recently asked in an interview if I have ever used/installed WordPress and the answer was no. So, I have been wanting to play with it on my site in the background. Well, here is my chance, but it will be in the foreground.

So hopefully everything will still work when I am done doing the migration but things should look different.

If by chance, someone reading this blog is going through with this I am using this article as a starting point for the whole operation.

When I bought my home, John Lightner came out to do a home inspection and he broke out one of these ladders. First thing I said was, "Now, that's a ladder!" He laughed and said he hears that a lot. Well, four years later, and Forty Dollars cheaper because of clearance I got me one. I figure I will be needing one for my freelance work. So enjoy the pics!

As I said yesterday, I will be doing freelance Technical Support now so I went out to local businesses offering my services. I was nervous at first but after the first few offices it started to be fun. Everyone I spoke to was very nice. A few offices already had someone but they still took my card. What I heard the most was, "oh, we have someone from corporate". When my business picks up I shall be naming it digiSal: Corporate, or something like that.

Some offices were happy I stopped by since they did not have anyone so that was a blessing. There was one place I really did not want to go in but then I thought "what if they turn out to give me the most business." Any guesses as to what place that was? It's on Stuart Place Rd.

At first, I did not know what to say when I got to an office but by the end I was saying "I wanted to stop by and offer Technical Support for your computers. I have a home office in Palm Valley so I would be close by." If I got past the receptionist I would elaborate more to the office manager about my experience and even offer up my limited web site creation skills. Of course, the Palm Valley line was only for offices in my 'hood.

Know When To Fold'Em

The job was mainly book keeping and other duties that could be qualified as an Administrative Assistant.

The best way I can describe how I felt towards the end is by saying it was too much for my brain. Too many numbers and too much stuff to keep organized. I also felt like I was bound to mess something up pretty bad, so I forfeited. Not right of way though.

A few weeks prior, I spoke to my boss about it and through that talk we developed a system that could potentially help me out but in the long run I thought it would help out who ever would take my place.

So what am I going to do now? Well, instead of trying to land another Full Time gig I am going to do freelance technical support. I took Monday off, so today is my first day. lol After I press publish, I am going to talk to some offices about my services.

Big Johns BBQ Is For Sale

Does that make Big Johns my favorite? I think so.

But now it is for sale! I literally lost sleep the other night as I tossed and turned thinking how GREAT it would be to buy it! I don't know much about starting a business, much less a restaurant business, but it has always seemed like it is hard to open a new restaurant that lasts in Harlingen. So maybe it would be easier to take over one that has been around for a long time. The trick would be not to mess up a good thing!

As I tossed and turned, I thought about how cool (and hard) it would be to keep the food the same but eventually change it but have a "Big Johns Classic" still on the menu. The "Classic" would have all the BBQ flavors, grease, and fat that made Big Johns last all this time.

Of course, what is a BBQ Joint without Mac n Cheese and Corn Bread?? So those would go on the menu right of way!

I think if I can lure people to go with me to get a burger 30 minutes away at Wallbangers, I can lure people to have some BBQ at a restaurant I owned.]]>

Reading Audiobooks

It all started when I drove up to meet my brother upstate to pick up his kids. It was a long drive so I thought it would be cool to listen to a book. I couldn't decide on a book so I chose a book I had started to read few years go. "Cell" by Stephen King. It was so good. The drive up flew by because I was so into the book. The drive down was another story. I had to actually talk to my nephew and niece! Oh, talk and play word games.

Anyway, so when I started working in Port Isabel, I knew I would use that 45 minute drive to listen to books. "Cell" was a really long book and just as good. It got so good that I would lay on my hammock here at home listening to it.

I tried another Stephen King book after that but it didn't do anything for me. It was the "Dark Tower Series". I still have the whole series in Audiobook if anyone is interested. A few chapters into it I turned it off.

So then I started asking people for recommendations. My friend Christi recommended "The Partner" by John Grisham. Forget it. I was hooked to Grisham books and Audiobooks after that. That was such an awesome book. Every book is compared to "The Partner" now!

As I said, I was hooked to John Grisham books after that so I have listened to "The Associate" and "The Street Lawyer" since then. I tried "The Last Juror" but it just didn't do anything for me. They were not as good as "The Partner" but still really good. I have all of John Grishams books ready to listen to but took a break and started listening to some books my bosslady recommended. She got hooked on "The Partner" as well.

She recommended to me three books by Mitch Albom. "Tuesdays with Morrie", "For One More Day", and "The Five People You Meet In Heaven". I listened to "For One More Day" and it too was really good and very sad. "Tuesdays with Morrie" started off ok but it turns out Morrie should have wrote Hallmark cards because that's what it turned out to be. Cheesy advice from a dying old man. Normally, I wouldn't read what a book was about but with a title like "The Five People You Meet In Heaven" I was compelled to find out if I would be reading some self-help book with a so-called Christian twist to it. It doesn't appear to be so but it does sound like it is going to be Hallmark-y so I am going to pass on it.

Since I don't like reading what a book is about, that is why I didn't write what these books were about; the ones I liked anyway. So, if you know me well enough to trust my judgement, then read or listen to these books too.

I'll probably start another Grisham book tomorrow unless someone can chime in before then to recommend something.]]>

I am now the new owner of a new used 2005 Colorado Z71 that happens to be Yellow! I got her two weeks ago from today and finally got the dealership to give it a good wash (on a rainy day), so I took some pics of her.

I had a pretty bad experience with Ed Payne Volkswagen out of Brownsville, TX and even though I would get 100 dollars for a referral I would not recommend them to anyone. Yes, I got bad credit and I did have a hard time getting a car loan BUT Ed Payne was not the only dealership willing to work with me, but they were the only ones with a truck I liked.

My friend Rob says to never talk numbers with friends about a car you purchase so I will just say that they were selling this truck a little high for what it is but I was also just wanting to get into a truck really bad so I over looked it after getting shot down by them at the low ball figure I gave them. In the end, they sold it to me for 1000 dollars more then what I had offered but supposedly it was because the bank was taking a chance with me.

On test drive, what I really did not like was the interior. It is a gray color, when I like dark colors. My first Colorado was a Dark Gray so I liked that. Secondly, the interior was dirty and had not been cleaned by the dealership. When the deal was done the salesman said he would pick up the truck the following Monday to have it washed. Did he do it? NO!

What he did do, was harass me at work (Adri can attest to that) about calling some 1-800 number for a new customer interview or something. I thought this was to evaluate the salesman so I waited a day to do it. Turns out it was to verify information on me and on the truck. Turns out the bank thought the truck had leather, sun roof, and power seats.

So when I called the following Monday to see about getting the truck detailed all I got was a call back the following day to come in to sign some more papers. Man, I was a little angry. On my way home, I called the sales manager and let him have it about not getting my car cleaned, no full gas tank and just about being disappointed about it all. He apologized a lot, promised to clean it, fill up the gas tank, but I still had to come in to sign more papers.

Well, when I finally went in today to sign the papers it turns out they wanted me to give an additional 1000 dollars because of the mistake THEY did when they submitted the wrong information to the bank. PFFFFFT

I was ready to leave the truck there and walk home when they finally said they would eat the 1000 dollars. So guess what? My payment went down about 30 bucks. That's about 1400 dollars off the truck loan.

They washed the truck, and removed some of the stains in the upholstery but will have to take it in somewhere to have it done right.

Meeting in Alamo, TX

Brother Robert Setzer preached a revival meeting at my church this passed week but he is also preaching at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Alamo this week so Juan and I went over last night to get a little Jesus. A little Jesus? Man, we got a whole bunch of Jesus. Well, I did anyway.

I was supposed to meet up with Juan over at his house but I had a little mobile phone malfunction that had me running late. Juan ended up picking me up instead. I was outside the house eating a bolis while I waited. As he pulled into the street I noticed he didn't have his Fog Lights on. I turned around to get my stuff and as I turned around again, he had them on. That was weird, and funny.

As we drive over to Alamo, following the speed limit of course, we talk, and have some laughs. So by the time we get to Alamo we are in good spirits. As we walk in to the church, Juan says, "Maybe they shaking hands right now", because we are running a tad bit late. Sure enough, as we walk in everyone is on their feet greeting everyone. As we walk in, I say "we were here the whole time". :)

We took a seat next to Brother Bob Hawk. His son in law was my first preacher after I was saved. Brother Arnold Woodard was preaching interim before our current preacher, Mark Laiklam.

I have said this before, and I will say it again. God keeps the best singers and musicians to himself. I say that because there was some serious singing and piano playing that night. From our very own Preacher's Wife to some teenage girls. All of which were singing to the Lord and bringing down GLORY! It was awesome!

By the time Brother Setzer took the pulpit we were all ears and ready for the Word. Well, I was anyway. He preached out of Galations 5 and touched on many subjects such as getting off track in our Christian walk and about not judging others.

After the services, Brother Dale Kincaid, preacher and friend from Cornerstone, showed us around the church and told us about the plans he has for the church and showed us how God is blessing.

Lots of people were fellowshipping in the church but I joined Juan, Dale, Bob Hawk, Robert Setzer, my preacher Mark, and his son Luke outside the church. We were out there talking and laughing and talking about things of God. Bob Hawk told us a sad story about a Christian man who died and whose family told Bob NOT to preach at his funeral but to say only a few nice things. Robert Setzer went on to say "What a sad day when someone will ask a preacher not to preach." Bob Hawk preached anyway! Amen!

While we were talking this drunk man came up to us with his hands in the air. When I first saw him I thought he wanted money. He wanted something more. He wanted JESUS!

Brother Bob Hawk is a missionary into Mexico so he can speak better Spanish than most Mexicans I know so he talked to the man. Prayed with the man. Got on his knees with man. The drunk man named Domingo sobered up real quick and professed to have taken Jesus into his heart. He told us that he had been wanting to come inside the church. That these past couple days he had been getting close to the door but never made it inside. I'm so glad we don't have to go inside a church to get Saved! Jesus came to my house and saved me. Jesus saved this man outside the church last night.

I am praying he shows up tonight.

After all this, the people started pouring out of the church as if God was keeping them in there while He saved this man.

Shortly thereafter, we all went to a new What-a-burger in Weslaco and filled the place up with Christians. We had a good time! A great time.]]>

Friends or Acquaintances

The job I have now is the longest job I have had so naturally it is the place where I have grown closest to the most people.

Today, two of those people are no longer going to be working with me and I'm worried. Worried that the friendship will dwindle and will become something that existed only among the walls of our employment.

The three of us have expressed that the friendship will go on and that we were never simply acquaintances.

It is pretty much the same, if you remember, but without the Threading of Conversations, so unless Twitter implements that awesome feature, the Thread Nazi is dead! They did however removoe the feature that enabled us to Twitter from Google Talk! There are other programs you can install HERE. I haven't found one I liked. I used to use Snitter but it doesn't work the same anymore it seems. Kinda buggy.

While we were away from Twitter it has gotten hugely popular. Even our own Local Channel Four news is on Twitter. HERE.

Pretty uneventful day today but at least I did not have to go to work. Almost did though!

I was, however, watching a movie with Nicolas Cage earlier, Bangkok Dangerous, and I found myself asking myself "why do they give this guy weird hairdoes in these movies!" She would have been out of there sooner had I not lost an envelop with 600 dollars in it that was supposed to be used for buying the parts and paying for the labor. Hopefully, whomever found it used it for something good since it was around Christmas time when I lost it.

Shortly after I picked her up, Rob called to ask me how she was running and I said the same, but after driving her all the way back home I changed my mind. I am not sure if it is because I have not driven her in awhile or if there is something wrong with her, but she runs different and I think I hear an exhaust leak at accleration. Either that, or she's misfiring a little. Will have to seek a second opinion.

Either way, I am glad to have her back home.

Well, as reported yesterday, today I moved in to the new office, on the east side. They put the furniture in, arranged by the help of Adri, and I got the computer online. So getting the phone working, and getting some of other junk in there is left to do. Hardly had any time today for all that.

I only sat there for about thirty minutes at the end of the day and its alright, definitely a lot more traffic in that area and no more private restroom!

I think I will walk on over to that other restroom when I need to ;-)

Tomorrow is the big move. I am switching offices for the third time in the five years I have been there. I am going to miss the office I am at now. It's in a corner and I see very little foot traffic. It can be so quiet that I can hear the sound of my hard drive clock ticking.

The new office has it's benefits though. It is near a side entrance so I can make my escape! I just need to find my office keys. I think they are in the vette which is in the shop.

I think that is the only benefit actually!

We live in time where people can do some awesome things with movie editing but more importantly we live in a time where people are writing some great stories, books, and even movie scripts.

Tonight I saw "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and I constantly kept asking myself How did they do that? Not only with the special effects but with the story telling. How do they come up with that stuff?

Maybe one day I will write the great american novel! (i guess i'd have to read novels to write them huh?)

Shock

I was hoping they would get there before the ambulance did because the scene of the ambulance and thier son in a stretcher would probably be a shock to thier system. It didn't happen the way I wanted it to. The ambulance got there first and sure enough, as soon as his family got there the mother, I believe, was ready to jump out of the truck before it even parked. It made me sad and it made me think of my mom when I was in a pretty bad accident.

I remember seeing the truck coming out of the intersection, hitting the brakes, and then all of a sudden I couldn't get out of the car. The driver door was jammed. So I decided to go out the passenger side. As I went over the center console, I had to tilt my head forward, because there isn't much space in a Corvette to jump over like that, and the blood started to flow from the gash in my forehead. As soon as I got out, some lady in scrubs told me to sit down and lay back.

Almost in a flash, it seems, my mother was on the scene bawling, crying, and screaming. I can only imagine the scene she must've seen; an ambulance, a firetruck, my Corvette in ruins, and me on the floor covered in blood.

That must've been a total shock.

I don't have to many memories of New Years nights. For a few years I think I would just hang out with Rob at his house, mainly for the BBQ, but now I just go by to get a to go plate, THANKS ROB!

So back to the worst New Years Ever.

I had been working at the airport as a SkyCap, the guys that do curbside checkin and help with wheelchairs, and during the "winter" another airline besides Continental and Southwest would fly in. They flew in from either Minneapolis or Minnesota, it had Minn in the name. It was called Sun Country Airlines.

Well, on this particular night it was delayed because of snow storms. As the night went on, it kept getting delayed and delayed until finally it came in at about 11:30 PM New Years Eve.

Remember I said I helped with wheelchairs? For some reason, this flight was always filled with elderly people so they would always request for lots of wheelchairs. I think the most was thirteen. There was little walking space through the jet bridge because of all the wheelchairs!

I don't remember for what reason, but on this particular night the airplane did not come up to the jet bridge so the passengers had to walk down off of the airplane on some stairs then walk in through a rear entrance that took them to the baggage claim. People on wheelchairs had to go a different route.

So, I wheeled off a few passengers and at the strike of midnight I was pushing this little old lady through the dark, cold, rainy night behind the airport struggling to open a security door.

She told me Happy New Year and handed me some candy, but in my head I was cursing Rob for getting me this job!

On other days I was grateful though.

As you can see in the photos, I had to hold him up like a 6 year old girl trying to ride a bike for the first time.

I had one such moment recently. It was so brief that hours after it happened it was forgotten about until a small conversation I had with Juan brought the memorie of that moment back. In fact, the title of this blog came from him.

I have said in the past that I wear my heart on my sleeve but I don't remember that I have ever said that I can get lost in my emotions to the point where nothing else matters. I don't remember that I have said that I can get lost in a person to the point where noone else matters. I can remember where my whole world revolved around just one person. When it didn't matter how far or for how long I had to travel just to be with that person. When the only thing that made me happy was being with that person.

I can remember when seeing her afar off meant no matter what I was doing she was more important, but now that time has passed and now that time has healed all wounds I can see her and, just like two ships passing in the night, we can go on our seperate courses without the world stopping just for us. It was a brief moment like that which left me in "awe" because no matter how much had changed up until that moment it was still okay and I was able to just smile about it to myself.

No structure in the world can be so amazing to me as the life, the events, and the people that God has put in my life.

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. I don't have a picture for you today and this is not a thousand words but I am glad you read this far.

When I got the house I power washed it but never put any water sealant on the deck so it got very ugly again.

A few months ago I started to power washing it again but half way through the electric power washer went out. This time around I borrowed a gas powered washer. Aside from running out of gas one time it workred great.

This time around I hope to put that water sealant. :-)

And what do I find in there? Some more Elvis memorabilla! I totally forgot about these but once I saw them I remembered them.

I am pretty sure Rob got me both of these items. The Pepsi from when he used to live in Missouri and the plate from a trip to Vegas. The Pepsi is sealed but yet there is very little Pepsi in it. What is up with that?

So, will be adding it to the collection. :-)

Above my garage there is plenty of space to create a another room. Maybe a game room? Office? A baby room?? Yeh right.

I had lunch with my friend George and he was estimating it might cost around fifteen hundred dollars to do this. That is not counting labor! He also did not have the measurements so he just went by what I told him. So it is a guestimate. Time to start saving! I am also taking donations.

I took this picture on December 7, 2002 while I was working as a Skycap at the airport. This was around the time I got my first digital camera. I have always loved this picture and I sure wish I had taken it at a better quality.

I hear that the Skycaps are not even allowed down there anymore. That is a shame. I used to be able to go all over the place at the airport and it was a fun time. Even though I saw flights come and go, day in and day out, I still have a HUGE fear of flying.

I'll get over it one day.

The Vette needed more work today and after a long walk to the parts store things started to fall into place. Rob was able to pick me up at the parts store and save me a walk back. I thought the Vette needed a new battery terminal since the one that was in there was spinning and spinning.

Turns out it was the starter. We took it out and had it rebuilt. While that was being done I hung out with Rob and his baby. Rob dug holes and I fed the baby. I also helped holding some boards but mostly baby sat. :-)

Once the starter was rebuilt the Vette came back to life! I also fixed a ground wire for the amp powering the speakers that had come undone underneath the car.

I started doing laundry and cleaned up the work bench which is the last pic.

To bad they don't sell it down here. I remember when I was a wittle kid they used to though. I fell in love with the drink in Dade City, Florida I believe.

Some time last year I got a case from the Laiklams and the Kincaids and what a flashback of flavor that was!

Not to long ago, up in Mission, TX they opened up a Cracker Barrel and wouldn't you know it, they sell Mellow Yellow!! Or Yellow Mellow as the green waitress said. I have only made it out there one time though BUT tonite on the way to Wallbangers we cruised up there to go to the Candy Apple store and I asked Juan if we could stop by the Barrel to get a Mellow Yellow. To my surprise he did! The picture shows what I paid!! I didn't get a picture of the SMALL glass. It was worth it though. Flashbacks are priceless!

This other black thing is actually a USB Battery Pack for things like cameras, phones, PSPs, MP3 players and such. Picked it up at Circuit City with a gift card! It's small and very light weight and made by APC, the World renowned maker of battery backup units for all kinds of equipment. Should work good is what I am trying to say.

On The Seventh Day It Was Good

Juan didn't want the Vette to defeat him so he came by after work to have another look. We were thinking the worst. A bent or cracked flywheel. We were also thinking that maybe the new bolt he put in there was sticking out to much and hitting the cover that goes below the flywheel. So we took it off, which also requires unbolting the starter.

The only clean part of the cover you see in the photo is where A bolt was hitting it. He put the starter back on and after starting and test driving the car the noise was gone so, Juan took a hammer to the thing and straightened out.

When it went back into the car the clatter was gone. whoo hooo!!! Thank God!

Oh, and no I didn't clean this thing before putting it back on. I'm sure most would.

After work, Juan was working on my flywheel problems and we thought WE got it fixed. That was not so because as I went to pick him up to get him some Pancakes for working and bleeding so hard I heard that dreaded sound return. I did not even make it to his house though. Within two blocks the Vette died! I ran out of gas!

I have run the Vette way below Reserve but maybe having her jacked up like that threw the gauges off.

After we put gas in it, and after Juan heard the sounds of the flywheel, he lost his appetite. :-(. But hey! At least now I am not that scurred to drive it to the shop.

And since it is dark out I am not sure if there is a black cloud over me.

Two for One on Day Two

The rear passenger tire on the vette has been losing air on cold days but before I left the house this morning I checked it and it looked good. Not good enough 'spose because as I am taking an exit for work she is shake, rattlin' and rollin'. She has been doing that for awhile on so I thought no big deal but it never stopped shaking. So I pulled into Exon and the tire wouldn't hold any air. I don't have a spare so I left the vette at the Home Depot parking lot. Rob later took care of it for me. He even donated a tire, temporary!! God is good! Thanks Rob!

This second photo is of Juan's truck with my moms new, used refrigerator in the rear. My mom called early this morning that her fridge had stopped cooling. She asked if she could have my little fridge which I have at home in my garage. I told her yes but when I had a moment I emailed Juan if he had one there at his work. He said he would get back to me.

I started to then have a really crappy day and at around 4:30 I had enough and went back to my office to rest and to calm down. That is when I found the email from Juan that he had a fridge for my mom and that he asked his boss how much for it but his boss let him have it for free since my mom doesn't have much dinero. Praise God! My eyes got all watery. So glad I went back to my office. After work, I picked up the vette from Home Depot and headed to Juan's work to take the fridge to my mom. My mom was expecting my little fridge and she was very surprised to get this thing. :-)

The bolt in the photo is actually the replacement for the one that some how unscrewed it self from the flywheel. The original bolt probably stayed behind in Juans truck.

Hopefully tomorrow this bolt will be holding the flywheel in place. :-(

Day Three On Crack

Noone has been been stationed there in YEARS so I could not find where the line was located upstairs in the phone room (boring info I know). Well, it was not until the end of the day that I realized there was live phone lines in the next room which were not being used! So I pulled the wires up from the other room and dropped them down for the new nurse station. Then I had to do double work because I forgot to drop the computer wire. (boring i know)

So here comes Adriville with her camera and starts snapping pictures. I guess it's kinda my fault since I asked her if she had her camera. lol.

Oh and this station is right outside my office, and the nurse is a Gaylord Focker (a male nurse).

This is me at a wittle age. I am not to sure about the age. The bigger picture has a funny story attached to it. A few days or weeks after we got this photo back from the photo shoot I would later ask my mom why she left me alone at the beach by the palm tree. :-)

In the bottom right picture I am seen in my "patas de pillo". I am not sure who or what pillo was. I think it was a clown, but I also have an uncle from my moms side with that name who is said to be cursed!

So this is my entry for Lucy's Baby Blog and also the first post for the month of October in which I am going to try and post a photo I take every day. Hopefully there is good a story attached to the photo I post.

What bachelor pad is complete without a Pool Table? Earlier in the week I got a hold of the table pictured above from my former boss man.

If you have ever been to my house then you should right of way notice that this is now sitting where my dining table was. Sure, I could have put it in the garage but it just didn't feel right. The ideal place for me would have been in the game room but there isn't room in there for this. So here it went.

It is a six foot table and fits almost perfect here.

Because it's TRADITION!

For the past few Fridays the Deleons and I have been going out to eat at Wallbangers. Every time we go someone always has to say it is the last time. They will remain nameless.

Most of my fair readers know how much I love Wallbangers, so when Friday comes I am always anticipating The Call. It comes from Juan. It's the call that says, in so many words, we are keeping the tradition going!

The Deleons like to keep me in suspense all day Friday, especially Juan with his "dare I say" comments on Jaiku. Meaning that should he dare say we going to Wallbangers in the evening. That dirty rat.

The Kid Within

It was this morning when I saw a bright red Fire Truck parked outside my work. It is the time of year when the firemen get their physicals at the clinic where I work so I'll be seeing a lot of them for awhile.

It was just so cool to see it parked with cones all around it. I walked up to it slowly to take it all in; all the shiny chrome parts on its fire-engine red body shining at me as if to say look at me. The best part was that the windows were all down. I have never been inside one before so I tippy toed up to see inside. Right then is when I felt like a little kid. It was just so cool. I looked around in there real quick while being afraid someone would catch me. It was fun.

As a matter of fact, don’t you think Goosebumps are weird? It’s hard for me to describe things sometimes, so I found this…… “That funny, little tingling sensation that suddenly overtakes our senses and surrounds our being with an instantaneous feeling that almost resembles a chill. Often, it can be caused by a very pleasant experience, but is also associated with a thrill of some kind, or a momentary fright.”

You just never know when they will strike. They can happen with a scary movie, with a sad story, or with a pleasant situation. I can clearly remember getting chills right before they called my name at both High School and TSTC graduation ceremonies. Oh, chills also come when you’re cold. Burrrrr.

It’s May 1st today. I realize I have put the first blog for this month, let’s hope we see Sal bounce back and continue. Don’t hold back!

We have this machine we call the Embosser. Datacard 280 to be precise. It prints out credit card type things we give to the patients that come to our clinic. For awhile it was giving us problems and it finally went off line. We figured out what part we needed and had it ordered. Having someone come down here to fix it is really really expensive so I decided to give it a shot.

Here are some pics:

I guess I should of took a pic of it still together. Oh well, here it is with the hood opened. Also worth noting, I didn't have the right size L wrench for this thing but the CEO brought me his set from home. TEAMWORK!

Below, I left in color the area I was working on. You can see in this pic the belt is not sitting right. There was some play in the shaft. Had to take it apart again and insert a flair type thing I had left out. Oops.

Below, is what I thought was the finished product. The belt is nice and snug but there is a difference in the two pictures. First one to guess right wins dessert.

I just wanted to illustrate and talk about how I never thought that when I got this job, as a Tech at first and then the Director of IT as I am now, that I would be doing so many things noncomputer related. So when people ask me what I do here I always say I do a little of everything that has to do with digital or technical things. Whether it be the PBX system (telephone for the lamen folk), Televisions, or installing security cameras. All in a days work.

Many, Many things I did not learn in college. It's every man for himself out here in the real world!]]>

Live Blogging from the garage.

I have been having trouble with Corvette not starting on the first ignition so Rob was kind enough to take out the starter for me. Sounds easy enough, but that wasn't the case.

Rob wanted to see if the starter would fire up not bolted down so the battery stayed connected. A few moments after he said he hopes the power doesn't make contact with anything, it made contact with a transmission line and punctured a hole.

UPDATE:
One more pic of Robs' bloody hand, I mean transmission fluid drenched hand.

Rob stopped the leak, after a few attempts and the car is starting fine.

There are some bushes on the inside of my yard that I have always thought were ugly. They are up near my neighbors house and even when I use to trim them I always thought they were ugly. Well, they got way out of control so I decided to have them removed completely.

Right away the yard feels bigger. So, I like it. Hopefully I can decide what to put in the place of these bushes. Right now all you will see is dirt. See the video below:

Well, after a gift card, a Target employee discount, and a $2.22 loan I finally got me one.

While doing that I found a video of an SS TB that had its muffler removed and it sounded pretty good. So Friday after work I went and had mine removed. What you are looking at here is the newest addition to my Game Room. It's a Sony Playstation 1 Kiosk that you would find at such places like Target or Wal-mart. Rob picked it up for 10 dollars a few years back at a flea market and has asked me to host here at my place since I got a few games going on here.

This thing has good sound too. It's even got a subwoofer! It's pretty easy to connect other game consoles but the only handles that are bolted down are the PS1 controllers.

It's a little dirty but that's nothing a little Shout can't fix.]]>

I think from the money I'd make from selling it I could use to pay off my furniture and my Care Credit card. I'd miss it so much though. I would miss saying yes , I still have it when people ask me, and I sure do get asked that a lot. Even people I don't know always ask if I am the guy with the Corvette. I would hate to be that guy that used to have a Corvette and the guy who says I'll get me another someday.

When I first started looking for this house I thought I would have to sell the Corvette to make a down payment but I got into this house with only spending a few hundred dollars. So now, I say I will sell the Corvette when I start a family, but that isn't going anywhere. Due to no ones fault but my own but that is another blog for another day.

I also used to say that I would sell this Corvette only if I knew I was getting another. And that other Corvette had to be a 1996 Sebring Silver Collectors Edition, 6 Speed, Black on Black Convertible.

Up until the Sixth Generation Corvettes came out, the Fourth Generations were my favorites and that 1996 is the last year of the Fourth Generation. BUT, I'm getting sidetracked. Like the preacher says, that was for free.

Sometimes I think about selling the Corvette but when I get behind the wheel it's another story. I love it so much. It is so small and feels so personal. I feel like it is just me and the road. It might not run all that great, I might even get out run if I raced something on the road but I don't care. It has never been about speed for me. It was about what the Corvette stood for and for its curves. Dare I say, sexy curves? Nah, I won't say that. Although, I once had a girl tell me, you don't look at me the way you look at that Corvette. She was talking about a white 1992 Corvette in McAllen,TX. I forget that girls name.

And you know, I have never met a person who doesn't like Corvettes.

I had not driven my Corvette in a long time so yesterday I tried to get her started since the battery was dead but the battery was to dead. So this evening I borrowed a battery charger from Rob and after a few tries and an hour later I got her up and running. Took her for a spin and remembered why I hadn't driven her. I got a low oil pressure light coming on. Juan suggested I Google it and some people are saying it is just a sensor that is bad but I'm worried I'll do some real damage. The low light comes on only when I am idling.

It has already been 31 days of blogging everyday this month. I think for the most part I had some good blogs but as Juan said it started to feel like a chore so the material was lacking for me. I will never forget this month thats for sure. Will definitely have to look back and read all my blogs.

From the get go I have said that I hope all of us who participated in the ABAD could get together and just hang out. I am thinking maybe a bowling night or afternoon. We can work it out in the next few days.

Hopefully, we can blog more often now. Like we did when we first got going.

Aside from being the last ABAD, tonight was also the last night of revival at Harvest Baptist Church in Edinburg. Tim Ruppard preached another great message. Apparently the beginning of the year is when revival meetings are held so this is now my favorite part of the year. We should be having revival at our church soon also, so I am looking forward to that.

On the way back from Edinburg, and Wallbangers, Juan was talking about how he feels uplifted when being around preachers and missionaries. When I am around them I sometimes stop and think about how I never would have thought I'd be hanging out with Preachers and their families. I never thought they'd want to be around a person like me.

But, most of all, I never would have thought someone like me could know for sure where I will be spending eternity.

Even though, I fail Him, fail myself, and fail others, by the Grace of God I know where I am going. Because as He said in Luke 5:32 "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

You too can know, that you know, you're going to heaven for it is written, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved". Romans 10:9.

Because, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life". John 3:16

I feel really tired for some reason. Maybe it's because I didn't get my afternoon nap before church. Rob came over and I was helping him with a school project that involves my network at work. Turns out we have a huge network with lots of computers. Glad I could help him out.

Church was really good. It was about the only time I didn't feel tired. Okay, maybe I yawned once or twice. But it was really good. I need to knock down some of them walls.

Afterwards a few of us went down to Dennys and had some good fellowship with the DeLeons and the Preacher and his wife. Glad Juan and Deedee made it back safe from Louisiana and with lots of funny stories and pictures. Can't wait to hear more.

Both messages preached at my church, Grace Baptist Church, were awesome as well. Preached on hell, and wouldn't you know it, three got saved from eternity in the lake of fire. I couldn't help but think that the revival meetings my preacher went to fueled his preaching and thus lead to those souls getting saved. God knows what he is doing.

I sat in Juan and Deedee's usual spot and I liked it. If only I got there early to steal it from them every time.

Looking forward to the revival meetings at Harvest Baptist Church in Edinburgh on Monday and Tuesday.

We already planning on going to Wallbangers afterwards on Monday. God willing.]]>

Distracted

When I need to concentrate on something, like reading, learning, or PREACHING, I get easily distracted and I hate it. If I hear a noise or see something move out the corner of my eye I lose focus and I hate it.

At church, I sit pretty close to the preacher but there are still people in front of me to the left, the right, and the middle and many times I catch myself wondering what they doing, what they fiddling around with, what they whispering and things of that nature.

The same thing happened to me at revival tonight. I was hearing whispering from behind me, movement from the far left, and fussing around from the front.

I was getting mad at myself and I just wanted to go up and sit on the very front row!

Aside from that, it was great peaching.]]>

Road Trip!!

ANYWAY, their trip has got me thinking about the road trips my parents and I would take to visit their friends in Florida. The last time I was over there was the summer between 7th and 8th grade. It was a long trip. To this day my dad and I laugh because I rode in the back of the truck under the camper for a long time and we were supposed to use these walkie talkies to communicate but we never used them. BUT, on the way to Florida, somewhere in Louisiana, while I was riding in the back, in the middle of the night, I heard a bang and then a loud clangity-clang noise. It was LOUD and scared me to death. Turns out the drive shaft fell out.

So there we were in the middle of nowhere, in the black of night, on the side of road. My dad grabs his Mag-Lite flashlight and starts to walk the way we were coming. He is looking for the universal joints that hold the drive shaft up. He found most of it. When he put it back on it wouldn't hold so he stuck a nickel in there. Temporary. Word on the CB Radio said there was a small town just up ahead so we cruised it and sure'nough the town popped up out of nowhere. We spent the night at some motel and the next morning my dad fixed the drive shaft in the AutoZone parking lot. He still has that nickel.

The whole rest of the way my dad was worried about his shaft and I was worried we'd be out of gas. It was funny.

Also, in that road trip was when my dad introduced me to the music of George Jones and the best country song ever. The One I Loved Back Then (The Corvette Song). My dad got the tape at some gas station and I can even remember standing in line getting it from the little carousel thing on the counter. We must've heard that tape the whole rest of the way to Florida and back because I still know most of the lyrics to the songs on that tape. I am pretty sure my dad still has it. At some point we upgraded to the CD and its sitting to my right in a CD case. I even ripped that CD and it's on my Zune.

When we got to Dade City, Florida we stayed at some motel across from a gas station that had a cow on their sign and boy did they have the best hot dogs. Got to find that place one day.

Those are the most memorable moments of that road trip. I vaguely remember another trip when John was with us. I only remember bits and pieces. Like getting an Alf puppet at McDonalds and John giving me all his onions from the Big Mac. Now I hate onions.

It's Just A Phase

I've gone through my fair share of phases. The longest lasting phase was the drinking. I think I started drinking when I was 18 or 19 and that lasted for about 8 or 9 years, off and on, but I've quit that, thank God.

Rob always busts my chops about how when he first met me I was smoking cigarettes. That lasted about a week. Gross stuff. Although, I think I have had more cigars than cigarettes but that was way over 10 years ago. I called that my Antonio Banderas phase.

Aside from that most of my other phases are want phases. Those are the phases where I want certain things for a good while and when I don't get them I go on to want other things.

A few months before I started looking for a house I really wanted a 2005 Harley Davidson V-Rod. Oh man, I love those bikes. Most Harley riders don't like those bikes because they say it don't sound like a Harley. I would say it's a cross breed of a crotch rocket and real Harley. NICE bikes. One day I was doing my business and it occurred to me that I should be looking for a house and not for a death machine. 6 months later I moved in to my home.

Recently, I really wanted a dirt bike. It must have been because I was riding Dale's dirt bike over at his house / hanger. I almost took Rob's off his hand but that fell through. Was looking around for a bit that never went anywhere.

A whole year before I got my SS Trailblazer I really wanted one. Rob can testify that I never shut up about it. So happy I got it, but not happy with the payment nor the gas mileage. :-(

So anyway, I am sure I missed a few wants.

Now I just thank God for everything I got and for everything I don't.]]>

The Tug

Man it's an awesome feeling when you start feeling God tugging at your heart. Preaching at Central Baptist Church during the revival meeting tonight was awesome. The tug brought the lump in my throat, the tears in my eyes, took me to the front and put me on my knees. When I got back to the pew I could barely stand. Had to sit for a few seconds. It's awesome when God gets personal.

Brother Phil Dunn preached a message that I wished all my lost loved ones and saved loved ones would have heard. He preached on burying your past at the church.

Pretty much speechless about the whole thing.

Looking forward to Brother Tim Rupert preaching at our church tomorrow night (Grace Baptist Church). He preached Revival last year at our church last year and it was great.

Sundays

No matter how great Sundays were, in the back of my mind I knew that the next day was a school day. And boy did I hate school. My neighbors at the time can tell you about my mom screaming at the top of her lungs trying to get me out of bed on school days.

Then when I got a Monday through Friday day job as I got older I still felt the same about Sundays. Had to go to work the next day!!

But then I got saved and boy did my view on Sundays change.

Sundays are the best now. I get to hear the Word preached, hang out with some awesome people and I get to hear some awesome worship singing. I believe the Lord keeps the best vocalists in the world to sing his praises. That means you KIM!! And not to mention Jacob Crisp when he was down here for Thanksgiving. He makes that piano sing! We just have a whole mess of talented people in our church.

So yeah, you can say I love Sundays. Maybe not as much when its cold though. ha!]]>

It wasn't me! It was like that when I came home!

I always wondered what was underneath that red carpet in the restroom. Tonight I found out.

And you know what it cost me? My futon. So whenever Rob finishes his room at his house he is taking it with him. You know what plumbers charge this time of night? Thanks Rob. Don't know where I'd be without your help all the time.

Having friends is so important. But its the quality of the friend not the quantity of friends. I may not have many friends but I can sure count on the ones I do have. I only wish they could say the same about me. I'll fix that printer Juan!! I'll give you a ride next time your car leaves you stranded in the rain Rob!!

I Can't Walk No Line

Anyway, so today, yet another person says that I have a walk that says that I think I am all that. Throughout the years I have been told similar things, that I walk like I own the place or that I am conceited or stuck up. Apparently ,how I wear my sun glasses also generates this image.

I am just left wondering how it is I walk.

After I got this comment tonight I text a friend who I think would give me an honest opinion. She sees me walking around all day at work. At first she says she sees nothing odd about my walk BUT after awhile she then says that I have a glide in my walk as if I am lite on my feet. Whatever that means! I am going to question more people about this.

Aside from being conceited I have also been told that upon first meeting or seeing me people thought I was really mean, a serial killer, a drug dealer (mostly because of the vette), and more recently, a satanic.

So I think I need a new walk.]]>

11 Years

I got online at my house for the first time using a WebTV in 1997. A small box that hooked up to your television and phone line to get you online. Rob got one first so I had to have one too. That thing had no CD ROM nor a Floppy Drive.

I think I might have used that for a little over two years before I got a real PC in 1999. I still have that PC and I am using it to write this because my newer PC is on the fritz. Still going strong!

It's has been cool to see the web evolve all these years. I remember trying to watch music videos on the WebTV. If it worked it would take forever to play since it was coming through a phone line. And now we can watch full length movies and TV shows thanks to site like QSS and Hulu.

I have seen regular chatting go from just text, to voice, to video. Whats next? Smellavision!!?

The coolest thing to watch evolve has been Google. I remember reading about this search service in PC Mag or was it Maxim? Maxim used to put out Best of the Web inlets in their magazines. Anyway, Google is huge now. Not just search anymore.

So when people get a computer for the first time I kinda feel bad for them because there is so much out there now. It's easy to get overwhelmed.

Anyway, the best part about this is that I have made some friends that I am still in contact with from the ole' WebTV days. They can be found here now. I am a contributor to that blog but have not written anything yet. One day I'll write about the yatta references in my blog and that one.

Let's Bowl

I had a blast and I hope everyone else did too. I videoed a few of the nonstrikes and below is what I put together. While putting this video together I felt like bowling again so I asked Rob if he wanted to bowl one game tonite. He said yes, but of course when we got there it's closed on Mondays. Pffft. Next stop was the bowling alley in Brownsville but that was a no go.

I have a few friends who are lovey dovey like this all the time (you know who you are) and I joke that it makes me sick. Well, it does make me sick. Love sick. Out of love sick. I guess I just miss it. Just like I miss saying I love you.

I used to like to say that I was a student of human behaviour. My classroom was any public area with plenty of people living their lives. Restaurants, businesses, Wallbangers. My favorite type of people to observe were love birds. These are the people that go on about themselves as if they are the only people in the room. Paying attention only to the one in their arms. It's beautiful.

Nowadays these are the only people I take a moment to observe. I guess for the same reason people watch movies or tv shows of people doing things they'd love to do. Racing, football, super hero movies. I see these love birds and I wonder what kind of sweet things they whisper to each other.

I wish I could speak their language.]]>

When it came to video games I guess you can say I was a normal kid growing up. I had the Sega, then the Nintendo but my liking for it stopped somewhere around Super Mario Brothers 3. I think I got into cars around that time. I really wanted a Camaro like my best friends Marshalll and Rob.

When people find out that I am into computers, people usually assume I am a gamer but I can't remember the last time I played a game on this PC besides those simple games I have on this site. HERE.

Recently though I have been furnishing my home with games here and there. My den is turning into a game room of sorts. First the Foosball table, then the basketball game.

Well, in my garage, in one of the cabinets I had stored the first Sony Playstation and a Sega Dreamcast so I got to thinking that it would be cool to get those connected in the garage. I have a lot of PS1 games and Dreamcast games are available on the internet. So when I told my folks my plan they told me about my old TV that is not being used at their house. So I brought it home and stuck it in the garage. I got the cables I needed on the cheap at the flea market and Rob got me a cool 5 video splitter.

I was missing one controller for the Dreamcast and one of the controllers on the PS1 was busted. eBay to the rescue! It took forever to get here but in the picture above you see two PS1 controllers, a Dreamcast controller, and a gun for the Dreamcast, which was not listed in the sale. All for .99 cents plus 7 dollar shipping.

If I stay in this house longer and if I can save up the dinero I would like to turn the space above the garage into a real game room. If I move from here then hopefully I find another home with plenty of rooms.

My place of employment is not that big. It is just a two story building. Over one hundred employees I believe. I can't tell you how many patients are in the building at any given moment but I can tell you that it is a building that is filled with people, persons, lives, and souls. Each and every one with a unique outlook to life and their own lives.

We get so caught up in our own business that we forget about everyone else. When I was young I had this silly notion that I was the star of a movie or TV show and that these other people around me were just extras. It was not until I got old enough to stop being so selfish that I realized that the world does not revolve around me.

I try to be courteous and nice to people around me but I fall into my own traps where I can be mean and selfish again like I was when I was little.

To the people that I am close to, and to an occasional stranger, I try to offer them something most people don't. An open ear and a silent mouth. People just need to be heard at times. But I don't just hear them out, I try to actually LISTEN to them. Hang on every word. Let the world revolve around them for a change. Even if I don't say a word I always get a thank you for helping them out.

When You're Strange

I went to H.E.B. today to get a rotisserie chicken and I saw two weird guys. One is an older weird guy. He kinda looks like Groucho Marks (without makeup) and a slimmer Albert Einstein. He is ALWAYS there and he don't work there either. He is either sitting in the deli area or walking around, talking to himself. Why don't they kick him out?

The other weird guy looked like him sorta. Only whiter and wore big aviator type glasses. He was behind me in line and saying weird stuff to people and blowing his nose and he was buying like five bags of Funyons, Bread, and Onions. Weird! Although, at the last minute he put back the funyons because according to him it was just air in those bags.

Do you think these guys know there is something weird about them? They have to know right? And if they do know at what point did they come to realize "Ok, I'm weird, so I'm going to H.E.B. and weird people out". But now that I write this I thought of something Anthony Hopkins said in the movie Proof. He said a crazy person would never admit that they are crazy.

So, someone out there has to please tell me if I get weird, or am weird.]]>

People ask me all the time why I am such an Elvis fan, and I just say that my mother listened to his music while I was in the womb. I was probably influenced to be a fan by my dad and my brother.

I recently realized that I probably got my manners from Elvis. I love to watch documentaries on him and I saw many of them as I grew up and he was always so courteous to others. So I am sorry if I say excuse me every time I leave the table at lunch or dinner. Blame Elvis.

I have never celebrated his birthday in some weird, fanatic, Elvis freak way but yesterday I got the crazy notion to make Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwhiches a-la Elvis. So I did that today. Sure, they weren't exactly like his but hey, I am not the King of Rock N' Roll.

Some of my fellow Jackles joined me and others did not. I don't know about them but I had a great time but I was tired by the time they left.

Luckily, I didn't have to give them the boot prematurely and I do have ways of getting rid of people you know. ;-)]]>

To me, beauty is in the heart of a loved one. Just like it is said, she or he has the kind of face only a mother could love.

Many times you see beautiful people with not so good looking people and others are quick to say things like, what does he or she see in them. I believe as people get to know each other and gradually fall in love the more handsome or pretty the other gets.

It is a two way street though. When one falls out of love with someone or is deeply hurt by another he or she becomes ugly in the eye of the beholder. That is when people start to say, I don't know what I ever saw in her or him. IT WAS LOVE! You were seeing them through the eyes of love.

So next time you see a couple and one is not as good looking as the other think twice and think for one minute about how much they love each other. And don't ever tell a guy or girl that has recently been heartbroken, oh, he or she wasn't good looking enough for you. That is nonsense.]]>

He was pretty much waiting for an invite. Well, I think, that thanks to this blogging and all the commenting he got that invite and that's awesome.

Another good thing about this is that we got Rob blogging more. It is usually hit and miss with him because of the things he has got going on. Hopefully he keeps it up even though now he is back in school and hopefully he will go meet everyone and the Lord in church soon. Lucy and Deedee are blogging again like they used to and even Kim is back in the game even though she is not doing the blog a day thing. And that is awesome. Adri didn't need any encouragement; she is always blogging. :-)

But I keep thinking about something else I should, I mean, something I NEED to be doing everyday. And that is reading my bible, daily. Last year our preacher gave us a handout that is supposed to help us read every day by checking off the daily readings. I started off good but I stopped and never started again.

I can't help but feel, I mean, I know that I am losing out on blessings for not being in the word like I am supposed to. So I am going to start reading my bible daily again and not just for the month of January, and not just for the year of 2008. Watch my Jaikus for when I am reading.

Lately, I have been finding myself in situations where I say to myself "if you were reading your bible you would know what to say."

So, I kindly ask for your prayers.

About a week or two ago, Juan and I were battling it out on the foosball table again when the unthinkable happened. As Juan spun his man to make a goal from the opposite side of the table he started to yell, STOP, STOP, STOP. I freaked out. I didn't know what was going on because I was in full defensive mode. Then I saw the carnage. The humanity. The dismemberment of one of his men. Like the scene of a seven car pile up; we could not look away.

The player is now in the process of reconstructive surgery due back at an unknown date and all games have been suspended.]]>

It was a pretty uneventful, busy day at work. Got some rough news today at a meeting though. Cutting costs. Cutting pay for awhile :-(. I know what I need to do and start doing again faithfully. Tithing.

Towards the end of the day while discussing certain religious denominations with the big cheese my friend Eddie text me if I want to go to Wallbangers this evening, since he owes me. Thirty minutes later I finally manage to get the "yes" out. Dalia, his wife, who works with me, joked that he was only going to buy me fries because supposedly he wasn't able to watch a complete movie on QSS, which is what I helped him with in order to get free Wallbangers. He tells me we would head out at 7:30 or 8:00. So naturally, I took a nap.

My phone was on the verge of death so it wasn't ringing but when I finally woke up at 8:12 I saw a missed call and a text from them. So they came for me. BUT as I was trying to change, phone calls started to come in from left and right and my dying phone couldn't handle it. I managed to answer one call and it was a nurse from work. I had to help a doctor with his PDA, which he uses for dictation, for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, Eddie and Dalia, were waiting for me outside. Finally, we left. Wallbangers was great, as always.

On the way back, and on the final exit, and as I asked Eddie for permission to ask his 18 year old daughter out, we spotted something peculiar. See the photos below:

All I had was my camera phone. Now I know to carry my real camera with me at all times this month.

This couple had tried to pull in to the gas station but did not notice there was a HUGE gap between the concrete so it fell in. They were trying to push it out but it was front wheel drive so that was a no go. As we stopped to check it out the people offered Eddie five bucks to pull them out. He warned them that it was going to do some damage but they were too drunk to care. So Eddie tied the chain and yanked that little car out on the second attempt.

Needless to say, Eddie turned down the five dollar payment.]]>

So I head out there and as I am pulling up to the parking lot an older man is pulling up in front me hauling a welder of some kind on a small trailer. I see him and I think to myself , I better get in there before this guy. He looks like a talker. So I park illegally and walk inside as he is parking legally. I show the lady what I need and she calls out for the guy to bring me one. I think I only uttered one word. And in walks the man a few moments later. Sure enough, the dude won't stop talking about how he couldn't find the place, wasted 10 gallons of gas, he is hauling a trailer, he is building a shed, yatta, yatta, yatta. I was very annoyed. I kept giving him my back as he gave the lady behind the counter his monologue. The guy from the back brings my roller, I pay the five dollars, and I walk out.

I really dislike this time of year. I am totally against cold weather. I see no benefit whatsoever. Unless you count Winter Mexicans as a benefit.

I think its cheaper to warm houses then to cool them right? Correct me if I am wrong. So that might be a benefit because my electric has been cheaper now a days.

I have been told and I have admitted that I am very lazy and with the addition of this cold weather I might as well just lock all my doors and board up the windows because I do not come out much during this time of year. I also don't spend much time awake for that matter. For example, on Tuesday I got up in what I thought was the early morning to relieve myself and as I went back to sleep more I saw that it was 11:30am already. Otherwise I would have just kept on sleeping!

I don't know how to say this but I hate being told that it is going to be cold the next day. Because once I am told it is going to be cold, that's it, it's going to be cold no matter what. I don't watch the news, I don't read the paper, and for sure I don't have Weather Bug on my computer so when it comes to the weather I like to take it one day at a time BUT people ruin it by telling me it is going to be cold. Otherwise, it would have just been a normal day. How weird is that huh??

Before I end this I want to mention the time a big storm was rolling in, and I guess it was going to be pretty bad because my friend Pat from work text me to tell me about it. In the text she said that she knew I did not have a TV so I didn't know about it. It was funny.

Today starts a new year and so far so good. Way better then last year. I can tell you where I was, what I was doing and why I was hurting. But I wont. That is all in the past.

Every new year people make resolutions but I hardly every do BUT last year I made one and it didn't happen. Just about the only thing I want to try and do different this year is eat out less and keep up with my ugly yard. The before and now pics of my yard are very disappointing to say the least. In fact, I should be cutting the grass today.

I sometimes say that if I were to get another job I would just keep to myself as opposed to be being a people person because when I want to be alone with whatever is bothering me I can't seem to hide it and then everyone worries about me and they want to help. I am grateful for the kindness but at times I just want to be alone with my thoughts and prayers.

When I was asked how I was doing today, my answer was totally honest and I didn't even have to think about it. "I wish I was invisible today."

It has been a busy day. I have been in and out of the office a lot, working on some new machines, but the walk from A to B was where invisibility would have been useful.

There was a silver lining, however.

During the preaching, Preacher says that he loves to be around people of like faith and people from church and I have grown to feel the same way. These past two weeks a few us have gotten together for dinner more times than usual and it has been a blessing for me.

I didn't get to go to La Playa with Juan and Deedee today but as I was on my way to troubleshoot a laptop my Preacher called inviting me to join his family for lunch and the fellowship is just what I needed to get through the day.

So digiSal.com went on the scene.

On my first attempt to take pics some rent-a-cop in a cop halloween custome told me I couldn't take pictures. Whatever. I took one pic and walked. I got in the SS and drove around but I didn't have a shot. I did see that the rent-a-looser had moved so I went back walking and took the second pic you see. I then walked around and some nurses blocked me as I took the last two.

I over heard some other folks talking about how they didn't let them take pictures either. What a croc! I know when Google started putting cameras on some cars and then had them go out and take street view pictures for Google Maps they got a lot of flack but the law says something about if its viewable to the public eye then its photographable.

Anyway, not a "deep" blog like the one I have brewing but its something.

This year was no exception. I did, however, get him a cool Eddie Bauer mini-light and knife for his keychain. Sure, it is not a Swiss Army but Eddie Bauer can put his name on trash and it will still be worth a double take.

I got him the movie Once Upon A Time In The West and he seemed thrilled to get it. Double disc set. Mom got him an Antonio Aguilar CD. I think that was the guys name. I can't really read it from the pictures I took.

He said he liked the light and the knife. I watched him put it on his keychain so hopefully he didn't take them off as soon as I left the house. ha.

Also included a picture of my mom and dad in an embrace and of him and I standing tall.

Happy birthday dad! And as it turns out I was born when he was 32 so I told them I got two years to have a kid of my own before its to late. No presssure.

At the end of the night, we were just standing around in the parking lot talking about our first cars and we were just laughing. My stomach was hurting because of the Cajun Chicken Pasta so I tried not to laugh but it was hard not to. During all that, something came to my mind. I remembered what Juan said in his blog once. In THIS blog. Read the last sentence.

So anyway, back to the Silence. The four of us were just about done eating. Actually, were eating dessert. The three of them got a Molten and Carlos was kind enough to share his. When out of no where it seems, Juan asked Carlos how he was doing. Carlos quietly told us a few things and then came the awkwardness. The Uncomfortable Silence.

We were a pretty rowdy table up until that point. A minute or two passed when out of the silence came the slurping from Juan's empty glass of water. Ah man. We just broke out laughing so hard. It was great.

Then from somewhere in my mind the words "i love you so much" were pushed out through my lips. But to who was I saying this to? I was alone. I wasn't talking to God nor myself. Then it occurred to me that this was not the first time this has happened to me. I remembered that sometimes during my long early morning showers as the hot water is running over my face, the words come out. Maybe I had suppressed the memory of saying this out loud to no one but it was all coming back to me. It made me sad. It's making me sad.

As time passed I think I started to realize why words like that come out of me subconsciously. I miss saying that someone. More then that, I miss having the feelings, emotions and actions that are associated with those words.

Maybe having that realization helped me sleep because those are the last thoughts I remember having.]]>

Remembering Colorado

I like it. I don't see many Colorados like the one I had. I won't bore you with the details of the differences.

The Colorado was the first brand new car I ever owned (del ano) and when I first got it I never thought I would want anything else but then days after I got it, I got promoted and I immediately thought that if I would have waited I could have gotten an SS Silverado. Two years later I got the SS Trailblazer.

I loved the Colorado as soon as I got it and until the last time I drove it. But the last time I drove it I had already been driving the SS for a day so it was kind of awkward.

Anyway, I just wanted to write about it. Loved that truck. Maybe one day I'll get the SS Colorado!

Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches (without the crust) was my daily food. After that came Big Macs with no sauce and no cheese; everyday. Since I didn't want anything else my parents wouldn't get me anything else.

I feel bad for my friends at church and at work when they invite me to eat because then they want to go to places I don't like so they end up changing their plans. So I've been staying away from group lunches plus they've stopped inviting. :-)

Anyway, my boss was asking me how it has been going since I have been solo. My patience gets me through a lot. If people are calling me from all directions I have always seemed to be able to keep my cool. What also helps is being able to access any PC in the building from no matter where I am. Whether it be from home or driving on the highway using my phone to kick start a print server.

I also told him that I feel out of the loop with a lot of the administration aspects of the clinic. I haven't been able to sit through an entire meeting because of being called out to do something.

But, as I said. The week ended good. Prayers work.]]>

Monday: got to close to fast to a promised one so I knew this day was coming but it still saddened me and I have never dreaded the end of the work day so much, because the phone won't ring. Also, this day, I hurt someone.

Tuesday: One voice, in one minute, and even now, brought the rain from my eyes. With a glimpse the flood almost came.

I've moved on, I'm looking forward, I've given liberty unto [mine] eyes, but it amazes me that I can be taken back so quickly. It used to be a scent that did it to me. On one GOOD day, the short trip from the first floor to the second floor in the elevator lasted a lifetime in my mind as that old familiar aroma filled the elevator with memories of a love lost. No regrets, no hatred.

Bloggers block; the inability to come up with something to blog about it.

A lot of the times a block can last a few days, weeks, months until ultimately you end up with a dead blog. Don't let it happen to you!

I am not sure if you know this but if you go into the Blogger profiles you can click through various words within a person's blog. Every now and then I like to click on the city name. I did this for Harlingen and San Benito. And what do I find? Lots of blogs that started off real strong, lots of posts, lots of comments and then all of a sudden its a dead fish in the water.

Don't let it happen to you!!

Where Was I?

At the time, I was putting myself through college working as a skycap at the airport. Skycaps do curbside check-in and help passengers with luggage or wheelchairs. During the week of 9-11, I was on suspension from work and for a stupid reason I might add. Since I worked the night shift, there were periods of time where there was no one to help or nothing to do. I would do homework or eat during this time. Since Rob worked at American Airlines, I became friends with most of his coworkers so during the few hours I had to kill I bought a pizza and I was watching a movie while everyone was out. No big deal right? Oh, I was watching Eyes Wide Shut. The controversial Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman flick.

Well, that night came and went and the next morning Rob calls me telling me, jokingly, why I had played around with the airplane that stayed over night. I didn't think anything of it. When I got to work, I was told by several of the AA employees that the pilot was complaining that his seats were moved and that some lights were on. Rob can tell you that there is no way I would have been able to get into that airplane BUT when they started questioning the AA employees one of Rob's friends was quick to point out that I was in the lounge that night. So my boss suspended me for three days for being in an unauthorized place watching an inappropriate movie.

A day later, during a break from Mr. Golter's Operating Systems class I over heard that they had bombed the World Trade Center. All I said to myself was, "Again?" because of the car parking garage bombing a few years back.

After this four hour class, I went over to go eat at Rob's parents restaurant, America's Restaurant, and his mom told me that it was an American airliner that had hit the tower. I was in awe. We then learned of the other airplanes from the news. Driving back to college, all they were playing on the radio was the news. I felt as though I was in a movie or listening to those old War of the Worlds radio broadcasts.

The college is right by the airport and it was so WEIRD not hearing airplanes come and go. You hardly notice when they are there but the silence just sent shivers down my spine. Lots of classrooms had TVs on showing the news. It still felt like watching a movie.

I called one of the other skycaps, Martin, to see if we still had jobs because I was hearing that they were stopping all curbside check ins nationwide.

So many things at the airport changed after that and Rob can sure attest to that.

Anyway, that is pretty much my day on 9-11.]]>

My Side Of The Story

So this morning when I left for church, I took the vette out because it had more gas then the SS. I didn't even bother to Google the weather forecast for they day. Church was really good and then afterwards we went to go eat at Jason's Deli, even though I had a pound of ground beef defrosting in my fridge I went to go fellowship with the church members.

As we are eating, it starts to rain a little. I'll have you know that ever since I have had two cars I have never driven the vette in the rain, mainly because I never replaced the wipers, but that is another blog for another day. When we leave the rain is just about done with, or so we thought.

As I get on the highway to head home Juan is quite aways behind me and I notice traffic is piled up on the other side of the highway heading southbound. Because of the concrete median all I see is the roof of a silver mustang with its hood bent all the way up and facing on coming traffic. Hope the driver is ok, but it's another ugly mustang off the streets! I am driving pretty fast to try and beat the rain. I didn't beat it because it started to come down hard. Then I feel that there is a lot of standing rain water on the fast lane under me. At this time, I look in my rear view and I see a cop with his lights on. I thought to myself that he was going to pull me over for speeding but the rain had other plans for him. He lost it.

The cop car must've hydroplaned on the rain water and when he tried to fix it the car went spinning. It was the kind of thing I see on Youtube all the time; all happening in my mirror. He nailed the concrete median a couple three times before coming to a stop. Miraculously, the car did not spin on to the other cars on the highway, and there was plenty of them.

I then start to worry about Juan and his family since I knew they were behind me somewhere. I figured I'd call DeeDee since she is not driving but I get voice mail. I try again, but she ends up calling me. The conversation went a little like this; "Are you ok?".. "Are you ok?".. "Are YOU ok?".

Although I am not a dog person, lots of these dogs tend to be drawn to me. Rob always says he wishes his dogs would be all over him as they are with me when I go over. Maybe because I am a new person or maybe they just like me.

I did have a cat once, but she got attacked by something and later died. Maybe she would have lived if I had taken her to the vet. So, I always felt that was my fault and I never wanted to get another pet.

Recently, a good friend at work, we'll call her Mrs. Presley, offered to sell me a baby boxer on the cheap. I am very hesitant because I don't know if I will be able to take care of him properly. Mrs. Presley assures me that it is very simple. I also get very disgusted with dog poop.

I think it would be good to have a dog to look over the house when I am out or in the middle of the night. Maybe I would not have been so reluctant to check if someone was outside my house the time the doorbell went crazy. It would also be a good reason to be outside and go walking.

I am just very nervous about it. Also, this puppy was in a little accident so he can't walk on one of his hind legs. To me that is just another thing that I have to be sure and take care of. Actually, Mrs. Presley told me that the vet will tell her in a few weeks if he will be able to live with that leg like that. Otherwise, the vet is going to suggest putting him to sleep. Hopefully not.

Rob has already said that I would be a bad dog owner.

The Movie I Love To Hate.

A real chick flick and a real tear jerker.

I guess what I really love about this movie is the love that is portrayed by the two main characters. The actors make it so real. Down to the littlest facial expressions.

And what I really hate about this movie is the love the two characters have for one another. The love they had was sparked almost instantly and was almost lost just as quickly. But what gets me every time is the seven years they spent apart. Seven years he had it in his mind he would win her back and then to be staring at his long lost love in the eyes again only to almost lose her again kills me.

Maybe it is not hate. Maybe it is a little jealousy.]]>

Once you sign up with this site, they give you a toll free number (1-866-JOTT-123) that you can call so that you can Jott things. I mainly use this when I am driving. I will remember that I have to do something so I call Jott, it will ask me who I want to Jott, I say "myself" and I say what I have to say. By the time I get to my email it is in my Inbox typed up for me. That's right, it transcribes it for you. If you talk really low then you can just hear yourself. You can also Jott other people if they are in your contacts.

Just today they added the ability to Jott Twitter. This is cool because if someone is driving and can't text and drive they can just call Jott, say Twitter, and then say what their doing and in a few minutes it will show up in your Twitter page. You can also Jott Blogger!

You can also set Reminders by saying the date of when you want to get reminded.

No Trailers

I think it all started with The Matrix. For being a geek, I have no idea how I never heard about this movie until it came out on VHS. My neighbor at the time, Marshall, told me to watch it so he lent me the VHS Tape. I had no clue what it was about and I was glued to that television. It was great not knowing who was in it or not knowing what the general plot was. It was awesome.

If it wasn't The Matrix that started it, it might have been Pitch Black. I am not sure which came first but I know that I bought Pitch Black on DVD without reading the back cover. The front cover looked cool and I had never heard of Vin Diesel. Turned out to be a really good movie which I wouldn't mind seeing again since it has been awhile.

Some people ask me how I can watch movies without a preview. How will I know if I am going to like it? I am sure there is someone out there that has seen a preview of a movie, gone to go see it, and hated it. What good did the preview do?

Here is my thing. All I want to know is who are the stars of the movie. That is it. Sometimes not even that. If the title is good then I'll give it a spin. I've seen plenty of movies with up and comers and they have blown me away. Wind Chill for example was really good and spooky. Gone is another good one; an edge of your seat Australian thriller.

The BEST movie I have seen without knowing a single thing about the plot is VANILLA SKY. I love that movie. All I knew is that it had Tom Cruise in it. His movies are always great.

The worst movie previews to watch are comedies. Why? Because they show all the funny parts in the previews. A good example is Dirty Deeds. The previews were hilarious and you know what? The rest of the movie was STUPID.

But I can't express the satisfaction in watching a really great drama filled movie for the first time without having a clue what its about.

It sort of mirrors real life because we don't know what is going to happen next in our life. One minute we are fine, the next you are freaking out at random doorbells. One minute everything is a box of a chocolates and the next your father is diagnosed with a deadly disease. It all happens so fast.

The same can be said about the movie you are watching. One day you are living your life day to day and the next you find out you are living in a computer program. One day you and your family are healthy and the next you are infected with an alien virus out to conquer the world and set to destroy anyone that is immune. It is glued to your seats, don't answer the phone, leave me alone while I watch this movie kind of stuff.

And for the curious. What brought on this post? I just saw The Painted Veil with Edward Norton and Naomi Watts. I didn't even know it was a period piece.]]>

My blogging is a little different then everyone else's because I am a loner. I am the only one not married or involved, have no kids and have a pretty boring job. Boring to most anyway. So I can't blog about how mijo did this, or said this, or ate that and I can't blog about honeymoons or anniversaries or domestic disputes.

Lately, I have heard complaints that I have not been blogging. In a comment in Jeanies blog I stated that with the whole situation with my father it has slowed my blogging or made me not think about it. I probably don't do it as often but I like to blog my feelings or emotions or how my boss said in our managers meeting, "sal's inter most thoughts" (i know you read my blog sir!) and with my fathers situation I just don't want to talk about it all the time. At times I do talk about it and I am grateful for those that just simply listen but since that is in my head a lot there is no other blogging material in there.

With the doorbell incident; that was just a play by play of what happened. Their was hardly any thought put into it. Maybe it doesn't show in my blogs but I try to put a lot of thought into a blog post. Even this one. I thought about it all the way from Weslaco. (i didn't know it was going to be this long.) My favorite part of a blog post is the title and I probably spend more time on that then on anything.

I am so glad that many of my friends are blogging because it takes my mind off of things and most importantly it shows me the power of God in their lives and in mine.

So keep blogging and don't give up on me and keep praying for me and mine.]]>

Things That Go Ring In the Night

So Juan, DeeDee, their family, Carlos and I took off to South Padre Island tonite to grab some fish tacos. Carlos' wife, Lucy, was at school so she didn't go. Sorry Lucy! Anyway, we come back and I am here at home and I am getting ready to watch the new remake of Halloween, but I am reading blogs and comments. It's about maybe 10:30 or so. Well, all of a sudden my doorbell rings.

What sucks is that both my porch lights are not working, so I can't look out to see who it is. So I just open the door. There is no one there but I think I hear something. I come back inside and after a minute or two it goes off again. I go out and nothing. I then start looking out my dens window. It goes off but I don't see anything.

I have three doorbells. One in the back and two in the front. The one in the back rings different so I know its the one in the front. One of the doorbells in the front is visible through my dens window. It is just outside the gate. You can see the two front doorbells in the picture if you click it to make it larger. No one was there when it went off when I was looking out and I can't see the other one. I then text message my neighbor to see if it is him or his kids or his sister whom I work with. He says no.

He then comes out of his house to turn on his lights and he hears my doorbell go off while he is out front but he sees no one. This makes me think something is up with my doorbell. I then text message my friend Rob and ask him if he ever heard of doorbells going off by themselves. He says no. I lured him over to my house by burning him the Halloween movie. I ask him not to ring the doorbell when he gets here.

A few minutes pass, about the amount of time it would take Rob to get here and my doorbell goes off. I go to the door and say "Yo!" I hear nothing. I look out and I see a opossum walking. Surely, if someone was there the opossum would have not been walking all cool. I call Rob on his mobile and he is still at home. He says he is coming right over. As I hang up the doorbell goes off.

Rob pulls up in his LOUD 1967 Camaro and I keep looking out the back to see if anyone runs out and if anyone runs out the front he will see them. We see nada. We start inspecting the area and then the doorbells. We try to set them off by banging around the area of the doorbell button, but nothing.

As you can see in the picture, above the gate there is a light that is supposed to be turning on automatically at dusk but its not. When I moved in that light nor the doorbell were functional. My friend George fixed that for me. Rob and I replace the bulb and it still won't come on. So we start thinking that because of all this rain it might be shorting out the doorbell.

The doorbell never went off while he was here. We then pressed the buttons and they all worked. It has been over an hour since he left and it still has not gone off.

I am thinking, hoping that its the doorbell shorting. I got one of my porch lights working so that gives me a little peace.

Hopefully I can sleep tonite.]]>

I try to record as many of the preachings at church as I can on my phone and this is one of my favorite messages that I have heard preach. Sounds starts off pretty muffled but gets better.

Preacher always says that if he is in the middle of preaching and you need to go down to the alter to do it. It won't bother him and God sure won't mind. During this message I almost went down there. Waited til the end though. This is one of those messages I heard that I felt God needed me to hear that night and that is how I feel about it tonight.

After all, this is supposed to be The year of the Corvette. It was a nice Saturday evening so I decided to fire her up. I drove over to Carlos and Lucy's home where they were having a birthday/football get together.

The last time I took the vette out she kept telling me that my oil pressure was low so I brought her home. I had not driven her since so before I took her out today I went out and got her a quart of oil. Getting the oil in her was fun since I forgot to get a funnel.

She is dirty so I take her to the car wash first. That was very frustrating. The last time I went to this car wash the hose was tore up and that was fun trying not to get wet. I pulled into to the first vacant spot, get three dollars worth of coin and put it in the machine. Well, their was no pressure and there was no one there to get me a refund. There was this one guy I thought worked there but I think he was a serial killing cleaning the blood from the bed of the truck. So I have to let that money go, about $1.50 and switch to another spot. All is going well with that one til I get to the "wax", well it comes out like soap and the next thing to do is the spot free rinse and that is not going to get all the soapish thing off, so I switch back to rinse but then the machine wants more coin. Luckily I saw three coins in my glove box so I don't have to cash more dollar bills. I finally get out of there and head off to Carlos and Lucys. I eat, we talk, we laugh, and then we decide to come to my house for some fooseball. As I am driving away I hear and feel something in my tire. When I get home (which isn't to far) I find this thing in my tire!!!

Not a good day for the Corvette, oh and the stereo is on the fritz also. But I won't bore you ANYMORE with that.]]>

What's in a name?

Up until I turned 16 and got my first job everyone called me Jay. Why? Because of my brother the father, I mean The Preacher. Growing up he did not want to call me by my full name or by Junior or J.R. so he simply stuck with Jay and the whole family caught on. So everyone I ever met called me Jay.

When I got my first job when I turned 16 at White Cleaners I told them to refer to me as Jay. After awhile I didn't like it but that job was only temporary, although I didn't know it at the time. Any job after that I had them call me Sal.

Family and childhood friends still referred to me as Jay but slowly but surely even they started to call me Sal. For a long long time the only friend that still called me Jay was Rob. But even now in the comments, his blog, and in twitter he is referring to me as Sal. That is very weird.

When it came to my name things got a little comical at church. It was my brother who told me about Grace Baptist Church in Harlingen so when he told his BEST friend Juan and his family that I was coming he referred to me as Jay. So when I got there I introduced myself as Sal but when Juan and DeeDee showed up they kept referring to me as Jay so then the whole church started calling me Jay. Then it got worse. People started calling me Jeff and Jake and Dale at one time. I finally started telling people I prefer Sal so that started a big confusion with everyone but it was funny and people got a kick out of it. Finally, I just started telling people to call me Sal during the week and Jay on the weekends.

Juan can't seem to decide who I am either. He refers to me as Jay or Sal and sometimes just J.

So, to recap. If I hear any of these names called I usually turn:
Jay, Sal, Jeff, Jake, Dale. Oh and I almost forgot about the time Juan and I went to Central Baptist Church for revival and Juan introduced me to everyone as Big Johns Little Brother or B.J.L.B. for short. My Preacher's son called me Eeyore because I once said that "noone loves me", Preacher once called me Sal Gates because of the whole computer thing and his wife called me Peter Parker for my geekiness.

Hurricane Season in Full Effect

I am no history buff, but I know that the Rio Grande Valley has had its fair share of close calls when it comes to direct hurricane hits. I think it was hurricane Rita that shut us down at work. We took every PC off the floor, wrapped it up in plastic only for Rita to hit father up north. Better safe than sorry I guess.

As of now we are on Flood Watches across the valley. At least that is what they tell since I don't have a television. Luckily my friend Pat from work keeps me up to date on the weather via text message. Thanks Pam! I am sure her husband will be raking in the over time due to power failures. Lunch is on you when this clears up!

When I look back at this short life of mine and remember the things and the people that made me laugh and smile it amazes me how all that can change so suddenly and so unexpectedly. I remember days where I knew how the end of the day was going to be. I knew the conversations and the interactions I would have later that evening. "They" tell me to look back and just smile. Sometimes I can do both, but at times I would rather do neither and I just try and look ahead. The one bad thing about looking ahead is that I don't know if I am smiling. I want to though, and that is something to look forward to.]]>

The greatest fast food restaurant invention has got to be the monitor they place at the ordering speaker that lets you see what the person taking your order presses. Just this evening as I ordered my burger the way I always do, only mustard and ketchup, I saw on the screen that it read mustard and pickle! At that moment, Juan called and he heard a little of my frustration with these machines!

So, I ask that if there is someone out there working a drive-thru window to please watch your fingers as you press the ketchup (or catsup) button because that might be me ordering and I don't eat green food, cept cilantro.

Mobile Phone Photos

And if you care to know how I am doing this. I am using Picasa Web Albums to host the pictures in a Album I've named Mobile Photos. There is an option to Embed slideshows on to webpages. It just gives you the code and I inserted the code onto my blogger template.

Getting the photos from my Pocket PC Windows Mobile Phone takes a few clicks. I am using a program called Shozu. It doesn't work as smoothly as I would like but it gets the job done. After I take a picture with my phone the program is supposed to detect the new photo and ask me to upload it or not, but since the photos I take go to my memory card they are not detected by Shozu. I have to manually copy the photo to the My Pictures folder which is not on the card and then Shozu will detect it. Then I tell it to go to Picasa, type some stuff up, and hit send. Later, I delete the copy I moved. In the end this is a better way to do it since I don't always get nagged to send a photo. I just have to remember to delete the copy I made.

It has been a great year. Not the perfect year but it has been the easiest when dealing with the stresses of this life. I like to think I lead a pretty simple life but when it comes to matters of the heart I wear it on my sleeve. I used to think that I was doing something wrong. That it was me. The only thing I was doing wrong was not trusting the Lord that died for me and who knows what is best for me.

I still get sad or mad but at the end of the day I thank God for another day and each morning I pray for another day because I am not promised another. No one is.

I just want to thank God for putting my brother in a place where he can tell me about salvation. I also want to ask my brother John to chime in on the comments about Salvation.

Engine Running, Locked Out

The last time I used them was a few months ago. I checked my secret stash for the keys and they are not there. I called Rob to see if he can come over with a Slim Jim to unlock the door but he is on his way to his parents Restaurant. I ask him if he could get away to come help me out. Meantime I am checking everywhere for the keys. No where to be found.

I start thinking that they may be in the Vette but the Vettes alarm is armed and the keys are in the SS. I don't want to risk setting off the alarm with no keys so since the windows are cracked I used a broom stick to pop the glove box ever so gently and sure enough my spare SS keys are in there. I then unlock the doors from the inside with my hands, setting off the alarm, grab my SS keys, unlock it, search for the Vette keys and disarm it. Mission Completed and got to church about 20 minutes late.]]>

I bought this fooseball table awhile back from Javier but only recently have I started to really enjoy it. It is definately a good time waster but it is a whole lot of fun. At times we are dead serious playing and during other times we can't stop laughing and praire dogging it!

This evening Juan and I had a little tournament. First one to win 10 games is the winner. It was a blast and time flew so fast that before we knew it, it was 1A.M.!! We used Twitter to keep track of the score. Which brings me to #2 of this post.

Ever get text messages that simply ask "What are you doing?". Twitter is the answer to this. Once you sign up you send Twitter text messages or instant messages telling everyone who is "following" your Twitter page what it is you are doing. Did that make sense?

Last week their was a notice in my mailbox that the County was going to work on the street starting on the second, which they did but they just covered some of the holes, like the one pictured in the first pic.

I snapped some pics when I got out of work and they are doing pretty good. Looks like Lightning Maqueen was doing the work!

The first pic was taken 2 or 3 months before I moved in as you can see from the date stamp.

And in case you were wondering, thats my neighborhood and that is my flag. :-)

As, you can see in the pics the total was 492.59 cents, BUT five dollar bills were still stuck in the bottle. I used a stick to take them out later. I used one of the bills for lunch today so that is why there are only four bills in the pic. There was also 5 pesos, a bent penny, and a bent nickle that the bank rejected.

So, the winner of my lunch on me 7,7,7 game is Javier of www.mensageabierto.com who guessed 420 dollars. He also happens to be my staff of one.

The funny thing is I can tell you exactly where I got these three bottles, but I won't. The really big bottle is actually a Piggy Bank. In the 8 or 9 years that I have had it, it is only filled up to in the middle of the big 7. I can't wait another 8 years to fill it so I am probably going to take it down to the bank on Monday and cash out. Any guesses as to the amount?

I have never been able to do any of these things in my sleep. Until last night.

I don't remember lots of details about the dream but I know someone died in a car explosion or car fire of some sort. I know it was two people, probably a couple. In the dream, I was in complete shock and I didn't want to believe that these people were dead. So, I started asking myself, "Am I dreaming?", but it still felt like real life. Then I started to look at my hands and down onto my feet but I was never able to realize I was dreaming. Well, maybe eventually I did because that is all I remember about the dream. But I was not lucid dreaming because I was not able to take control of the dream. Maybe I was just able to get out of it.

GrandCentral Acquired by Google

The rumors were true. When I got home today and refreshed the GrandCentral Inbox the logo changed to a new From Google logo.

So that can only mean that Google bought Grandcentral. This is great. As I blogged before, I have been using GC for a good month now and I really like it. I can only assume that they are going to incorporate GC calls into Gtalk. As of now, GC works with the Gizmo Project to take calls on a PC, but if you ask me, it does not work that great and it is not very reliable. And if they do use Gtalk instead of Gizmo it is one more program I can uninstall and one more username and password I can do without.

GrandCentral: One Number To Rule Them All

If it is available in your area, you sign up, get a local number and then you can tell Grand Central which phone numbers to ring when someone calls that number. Their slogan is "One Number For Life". They are trying to say that you can always keep your Grand Central number and change mobile phone, work phone, and home phone as much as you like but they will always ring when someone calls your Grand Central number, so long as you have told Grand Central your new number. You can even have Grand Central ring on your PC using a program called Gizmo Project. Gizmo Project is supposed to be a Skype killer.

Slowly but surely my friends have been using my Grand Central number to reach me. It is good for me because if I am at work I have the option to answer it on my work phone or mobile phone. I can even transfer the call without the caller even knowing I switched from mobile to work. And if I don't answer, voicemails get sent to email or I get a text message telling me I have a voicemail. Also, my brother and I used PhoneSpell to try and find a word or two to make remembering my new number easier.

Another cool feature is the WebCall button. Put this button on your page, or where ever, and people can call you without giving out your number. Anyway below is my WebCall button. Try it out. It will ask for your number so that it can connect us. You can check where it says to keep your phone number private if you dont want me to have your number.

The Corvette Rides Again

When I got her back I was driving her on a daily basis. The SS was my weekend car for a week or two. People usually ask me how I decide which car to drive and that decision is usually based on the weather. I don't drive the Corvette in the rain so if there is a possibility of rain she stays home. I am not one of those anal guys who doesn't like getting his Corvette wet; it just doesn't have windshield wipers. When it did have wipers they would collide in the middle. Corvette wipers don't wipe like other cars. They wipe from the inside out. So, to prevent them from colliding, people recommend getting the wiper motor and arms of a 93 and above. I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Another thing I have not gotten around to doing is fixing my headlights. Driving around during the day with the headlights up is very embarrassing for me. When I would normally go up to another Corvette driver I now stay behind like a shy kid with a scratch on his face.

Although she still has some issues she is very drivable and I thoroughly enjoy having the option in the morning when I leave for the day.]]>

I think they must've adjusted their scales because I feel as though I am getting less brisket for my money. I used to be barely able to put down a half pound of brisket but now I still have room for more when I finish. I tried the Lean brisket last time, which is supposed to be less fat I guess, but it just didn't taste the same.

So I think I'll be staying away from there for awhile, unless I am really craving that stuff. You would think I would have stayed away because of the hepatitis.]]>

SS Trailblazer

I tried to get one last year but the bank wanted a ridiculous amount of money down to get a decent monthly payment. So I gave up on it and moved in to my home.

Well, almost one year later the dealership where I got my Colorado had a few more SS Trailblazers in stock but I never went down for fear of rejection. But then I started eyeballing this silver beast off the highway and I was so tempted to go in and see what they can do for me.

On the last day of March, a rainy day that is, I went down to the dealership and after 6 hours of being there I drove home with her.

It is a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer Supersport. Or SS as we simply call it. Why is it an SS. The LS2 Corvette engine under the hood! And also the suspension, wheels, and other cosmetics not found in standard trailblazers. Its awesome, and I love driving it. It already has 1900 miles on the odometer!! I cant stress how much I love it. I love it to much!

Anyway, I took a long time to finally blog about her but here she is.

I tell people that I really like photography but I can't remember the last time I snapped a photo just for the sake of the art. My camera sits in its case inside my back pack most of the time. Why? Because I don't go out there to snap photos. I just wait for the moment to arrive instead of going out and looking for it. Laziness.

I used to tell people that I enjoy bike riding but today was the first day in a few weeks that I actually went for a ride. I took that ride only to try and relieve some stress, or tension, or something that was tearing me up inside. I was only out there for about 45 minutes. The battery on my phone started to die (was using it to listen to internet radio via Resco Radio). I should go out and ride more often, but I get lazy.

And oh, how I love acoustic guitar. If I had my own Ibanez V Series Acoustic/Electric guitar I would play it all the time. Wait a tick! I do have one, but it is mostly a decoration on its cool Fender guitar stand. What a waste! I picked it up a few days ago and been trying to learn a riff. I can only imagine how much I could have learned if I would have watched the two instructional DVDs I have. I wonder how much I would have learned from the guitar book I bought at Barnes and Nobles. All the software I have, all the ebooks I have, and most importantly, all the TIME I have, all gone to waste! Why? Because of Laziness!]]>

Sure, the cashier was sacking his stuff but couldn't he have just waited to hand the bill to the cashier? I thought maybe he was a "Winter Texas" but as I walked outside and looked at his trucks license plates I saw he was a year round Texan.

2007 - Year of the Corvette

So, I almost never make new years resolutions and I know its already February but I stated this back in January.

This year will be the year that I drive my Corvette as much as I did back when I got it back in '99.

It has proven not to be as easy as hopping in and going. My first problem started when it wouldn't start. A simple jump start solved that but then it started to happen pretty frequently until it didn't want to start anymore. Luckily, it was in my driveway where it died. I had just jump started it, reversed it out of the garage and then the whole car went dead in the driveway. A jumpstart with my truck nor Rob's battery charger would start it. Had to push it in. So there it stayed for a few days. I removed the starter and had it checked but it was good. Had to have Rob put it back in because I just couldn't do it. I also replaced the positive battery cable. 70 dollar battery cable!! Rob suggested it was the battery that was to dead to jump start so we brought over his Optima battery and the vette started perfectly. So we went out and bought a new battery.

And new problems arose. Firstly, my right headlight would not flip all the way open. Secondly, my alarm was not arming, and Thirdly my stereo opened half way and quit working. (its a hide-way kenwood stereo). I dislike seeing Corvettes with the lights up so this was a big no no. My dad and I had repaired this headlight motor when I first bought her but now it seems to have broke again. In fact, the only way I could get this headlight to move was to switch the connection to that of the left headlight. So, that tells me that I have a bad headlight motor relay and bad motor. So, I had to leave the headlights up because it is to costly to replace the module and repair the motor at this time. I then took it into D-Tronics where I had the alarm and stereo put in. My alarm had went into whats called Valet Mode when we switched the battery. In Valet Mode the alarm will not arm but the doors still lock and unlock with the key. This feature is used when working around the car and you don't want the alarm going off all the time. A simple press of a button places the alarm out of Valet Mode. I couldn't find this button before but they relocated it. And it was a burnt fuse behind the stereo that prevented that from working. All the work was covered under warranty so it wasn't a complete waste. So this past week I have been driving the car daily.

Yesterday I took the day off and I planned on changing the spark plugs, balancing the tires, and doing a wheel alignment. It did not go ALL as planned. I only managed to change 7 out of 8 spark plugs. I couldn't get one of them out. So that one stayed on until I could have someone try it. I got the tires balanced but decided to put off the wheel alignment til next week. And I am glad I did because I was going to take it to a shop that I now found out is not that great. So, today I was telling Rob about my spark plug so he gives it a go but the plug broke in the socket. So now the vette is rendered a paper weight until we can get the rest of the plug out.

It is turning out to be a pretty interesting Year of the Corvette but, it is all worth it because I love driving her. It cheers me up and Lord knows I need that.

Well it seems as though that plug is not going to come out easily. Rob and I posted on some forums for suggestions and Rob did a few of them. From trying to knock out whats left of the porcelain, to trying to unscrew it by tapping it with a screwdriver. So now it looks like the whole head is going to have to come out so that it will be easier to get to. A mechanic friend of his will do it for 300. Gonna have to sit on that for awhile.

Anyway, now that I am older I can look back and I can see that I either had a nervous breakdown or an anxiety attack. I don't know over what; I was just a kid.

I used to have some sort of hallucination. Objects in the room used to look very close to me. As if they were going to hit me in the face. I used to dream while I was awake. Stupid dreams to. I would dream that I was watching Dukes of Hazard and that some sort of dinosaur would attack them. That was a stupid dream but one that I had was very scary to me. I used to dream that soldiers were invading our neighborhood. At one point I was so freaked out that I went to my parents room and I was talking crazy. I would ask my dad if he was ok. If the soldiers had attacked him. Finally, I vomited all over the floor. My mom tried to get me to eat. First she tried Fruit Loops. I remember spilling the milk on this throw pillow we used to have in the living room. The next thing she tried to feed me was a Whataburger burger. It was disgusting. That is the first and the last time I have ever eaten a burger from there. Sometimes I feel like I am the only Texan that doesn't like Whataburger.

I remember I used to go sit in the restroom. I felt safe there I guess. I used to put my head on the roll of TP that was attached to the wall. I also felt as if whatever was attacking me while I was in there couldn't get me. I remember I used to feel very helpless. I felt like my hands were so big; so big that I could not pick up a needle that was fallen on the floor. Helpless.

The one thing that would actually soothe me was listening to FM Radio. I used imagine the words of the songs flying out of the radio and over my eyes. I would calm down eventually and fall asleep.

I don't remember how many times that happened but I had similar feelings tonite although not to the extent of what I just described. I felt a little helpless and I wanted to hear music really loud. It brought back memories of when I was a kid. I almost have no memories of being a kid but this came back to me. I've talked about it with a few people but I don't think they even cared and I don't remember who I even told.

Now it is out there.

It's odd that the person you ache for is the only person that can make everything good again. It's funny that the same person that can make me cry can also make me laugh at the same moment in time. It's a beautiful thing.

I've learned that I am the type of person that hangs on to everything that was good in the past and can't accept how things have changed. I look at the past and I strongly believe that things can be that good again. All the good that has ever come and gone between us completely overshadows the ache I feel now. The hope that it will be that good again gets me through the day but the fear that it never will keeps me up at night and keeps me in bed longer then I should.

Time goes by so fast and with time comes change. This time last year I was causing you heartache. Nowadays it pains me to think that I might have hurt you in anyway. But now the tables have turned. I don't have many regrets in this life of mine but the biggest one is not following my heart back then. I tried to use my head so that I wouldn't end up hurting as I am now but now I see the mistake I made.

I rejected a wonderful person and now that I am willing to give her all my heart I might be to late.

On the day of my salvation, my brother told me to pray to God about my situation and that God would answer my prayers. I always thought that if God answered your prayers it meant that you got what you wanted. This is not so. God will answer in either three ways. Yes, No, or Wait.

I believe ,Wait, is the answer I got, and have been getting, and waiting is what I have been doing and wait I shall do.

This my first automobile. A 1985 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z. It was pretty to look at, from a distance. Good from far, but far from good.

It was a mess when I bought her and a mess when I sold her. The only thing cool about it, in my opinion, was the color, Corvette Yellow. Maybe that is why today I like certain yellow cars. Anyway, this is the best angle of the car. ]]>

I wasn't going to give out candy at first but when I looked outside and saw a line of cars parking letting out herds of kids I felt bad so I hauled to the dollar store around the corner and got a load of candy. I was very generous with the kiddos so I ran out rather quickly. It was really fun giving out candy and talking to the kids. One kid even gave me his whole story about getting hurt at football and not being able to play. I guess it was little league or something. It was a cool night. Next year I will be more prepared. I might even dress up! Who knows.

Mom Still Doing Good

Mom Is Back Home

My truck is the lowest of all of our vehicles (cept for the Corvette) so I picked her up and drove her home. Which was great because I was the one that dropped her off in the first place.

She is very happy to be home. Very happy.

The doctor prescribed a few more drugs, but thank God for samples.

Thank you to everyone who sent their prayers, their thoughts, and there good vibes. We will all continue to pray that she keeps on recovering.

Mom is Recovering Well

232 2006-10-18 23:18:00 2006-10-18 23:18:00 open open Mom-is-Recovering-Well publish 0 0 post This morning at about noon they moved my mom out of ICU and into a regular room. This was great because we were no longer on a visiting schedule or restricted to four visitors.

Shortly after being moved in her new room, my mom wanted to lay down because she had been sitting up for many hours. The surgeon is very strict about having his patients lay down after that kind of surgery so the nurses were very hesitant about letting her lay down. It was really hard seeing my mom in pain. Her incision was hurting her a lot by the way she was sitting. We finally got the nurse to let her lay down for thirty minutes. It ended up being about an hour. She was very relieved and was finally able to get some sleep because she said she couldn't sleep the night before despite the sleep medicine they gave her.

When they finally sat her up again she was no longer in pain. We were all very happy for her.

The doctors are now saying that she will probably be able to go home by Friday. She is very very happy to hear that.

Thanks to everyone who has had her in their thoughts and prayers.

Mom's Post Surgery

233 2006-10-17 22:11:00 2006-10-17 22:11:00 open open Mom's-Post-Surgery publish 0 0 post Let me just tell you that seeing my mom with all those tubes and other apparatuses coming out of her hours after the surgery was the most heart wrenching thing I have ever seen. Add the look of heartache in my dads face and eyes nearly killed me. For a few moments, my dad was unable to breathe right. I tried to stick by him but at times I was overwhelmed.

During the second visit in ICU, she was a little more alert but unable to speak although she really wanted to but we told her not to. They had just removed a tube from her throat which was doing I don't know what for her.

It was not until the third visit that she was very alert and talking to us and asking for us and even making jokes. Every now and then I could see my dad breathe breaths of relief that she was recovering.

About five minutes ago, I called the ICU and they told me that she is doing very well. Textbook he said; whatever that means. (I'm not hip with the lingo.)

So tomorrow should be an even better day. God willing.

My brother messaged me this after noon and told me that he led her to the Lord this morning. So God will definately be by her side tomorrow.

My brother John is a Baptist Pastor in Louisiana and he is going to be here all week to be with her. He started a blog here just recently. We are all glad he is here.

Comforting Mom

My dad has been there with her all day these past few days, only leaving for a short amount of time to go eat or check on the house. I was with her all day Friday and a great deal of the day today. I only left for a few hours when I knew she was going to have other visitors.

In the time that I am there with my mom and dad we laughed a lot and talked a lot. Every once and awhile she talks about wanting to go home. I tease her that all she will be doing there is watching TV on the couch. She just laughs. I hope we can keep her comforted for the 4 or 5 days she is going to be there after the surgery.

Sunday (tomorrow) is another day.

Mom's Pending Surgery

It turns out that she has four arteries that are not doing so well. The doctor could have used balloons to fix them but he said that that would not be the best thing to do. That the long term risk of a heart complication using splints and balloons is greater then the short term risk of performing heart surgery. Tear jerking, heart wrenching stuff.

When the heart cath was done my mom asked us if it was done and we said yes and there was so much relief in her eyes and face but I had to tell her that there was still more to do. She was kind of shocked at first but I think what bothered her the most was that she wasn't going home that night. After the drugs wore off, we told her again what needed to be done.

Her heart is in good condition and she hasn't had a stroke or attack so the doctor wants to prevent that by having the quadruple heart bypass instead of fixing the arteries with balloons and stints. God, please be with her.

I haven't blogged my testimony yet but if I ever do you will learn that I don't believe in coincidences to much and I just want to thank God for having one of the doctors that I work for do the heart cath on her. Ever since I started working at VDC Dr. Mild and I got along pretty well. He is a geek as well. So talking to him and getting him to explain things was very easy and knowing some of his medical past eased the nervousness in all of us. I also want to thank God for Ben. I am not to sure what his position is called but he played a big roll in the procedure today and knowing his skills from friends put me at ease knowing he was in good hands. We have hung out, had dinner, and few drinks in the past. Cool cat.

Tomorrow we will find out more about the open heart surgery.

Mom's Heart Cath

238 2006-10-13 00:43:00 2006-10-13 00:43:00 open open Mom's-Heart-Cath publish 0 0 post My mom had been experience some chest pains and shortness of breath but she had been very hesitant about going to the doctor, like most of the people in my family, including me, but she finally went and her doctor sent her to the hospital to run some tests.

They did some stress tests, ekg's or emg's (I'm not hip with the lingo), and sonos of the heart and they concluded that she has some clogged arteries or veins, so tomorrow morning she is going to be getting her Heart Catheterization so they can see and unclog her veins.

At first she didn't want me to be with her when I took her to the hospital but when she went to the wrong place the first time I decided to stay there until she was settled into her room. She was really nervous, and so was I. When the nurse placed the ID tag around her wrist she said that she hadn't worn one of those since I was born. So it had been 29 years and 2 days since she was admitted into a hospital. Out of the whole day, the thing she didn't like the most was being pushed around in the wheelchair. She almost cried, and in turn I almost cried. I think I was able to comfort her a little. She kept wanting to go home though. Kept telling me that she wished she hadn't gone to the doctor. Like George Lopez would say, "Don't go. They'll find something wrong with you." I think she was only half kidding.

We didn't find out about the procedure she needed to have until late this evening so upon finding out I drove down to the hospital to get more information about it. It turns out that one of the doctors that I work for is going to be doing the procedure. I am glad that I know who it is and so was my mom when I started telling her about him.

In about 6 hours or so I should be heading down to the hospital to be with her. My dad should be meeting me there as well. I pray that it all goes well.

Fonpods (phonepods).Found this site via GigaOM.

Fonpods advertise themselves as making any mobile phone into an MP3 player for Podcasts. What you do is call the number they give and you can listen to preselected Podcasts from your channel over your phone. Once you get a login you can go to their site and select which podcasts you want to listen to.

I thought this was a pretty neat idea. Reminds me of a service that was available a few years back. I think it was called Call Me, i cant find reference to it on the web, and they gave you a 1800 number which you called that would let you listen to news, get horoscopes, and even play black jack with impersonating celebrities.

Who needs a Stilletto when you have a PPC-6700

Before I knew that my insurance was going to replace my stereo I was looking at maybe purchasing the up and coming Sirius Stilletto.

The Stilletto is a cool little device. It's a truely portable satellite reciever. You can take it jogging or whatever. Plus you can buy a car kit or home kit for it. It also has 2gigs of space for MP3s and to record from Sirius, but the RIAA is out to stop that I bet, since they stopped the pre-orders.

The other very slick feature is that is has built-in WiFi. So if for some reason you can't catch the Sirius reception, and you happen to be somewhere there is free wifi, you can listen to Sirius over the net since its part of your plan.

BUT when you have a PPC-6700 Pocket PC Phone with unlimited internet through Sprint, you've installed SiriuCE, and have an FM Transmitter, then you don't need that Stilletto. Don't expect great sound though. They minimize the sound quality to be able stream. There is a rumor that they are going to increase the quality of streaming music though, but for a higher price.

So enjoy the pic from inside the Vette. Also, since all sound from the phone was being transmitted it was easier to tell when I had a text message or phone call. ]]>

PPC6700 and a Stowaway Keyboard

Pinger - Free Send Voicemail Service

Found a link to Pinger from Techcrunch. I signed up and its pretty cool.

Once you sign up, you give them your cell phone number and they intern give you a local number you can call so that you can send Voicemails to people in your Contacts. The people in your contacts can either be other Pingers or just people with Email. Importing my Gmail contacts was a snap. I just tell Pinger that I am going to use Gmail, sign in with my Gmail user and password and it synchs with my Gmail contacts either daily or manually. So, once everything is setup and verified, they verify with emails and text messages, you simply call the number they give you and say the name of the contact who you want to send a message to, confirm it, and away the message goes.

If the person is a Pinger, they will recieve a text message with a local number for them to call to hear the voicemail. There are no prompts whatsoever. The text message tells you who its from, and all you hear is the voicemail when you call, then you can delete it or reply after you hear it. Every new voicemail has its own phone number. Pretty slick. Once you delete that voicemail the number is no longer valid.

If the person you send the voicemail to is not a Pinger then they simply get an email with a link to hear the Voicemail. Gmail has its own Voicemail player, but it wont work with Pinger because they dont send it as an attachment. Still cool.

As a Pinger, you also get a cool Inbox Voicemail manager when you sign up. It uses a lot of Ajax so its pretty streamlined.

Ubuntu LAMP Server

I had already installed Gallery on my website so it was a snap. I was in a hurry to get it up and going and since MySQL was not installed I used Gallery1. The other fun stuff was creating a DNS forward lookup zone so that I didnt have to give people an IP address to view the gallery. This was also easily accomplised since our DNS server is a Win2k3 box. A few months after setting this up the Red Hat box up and died. Javier and I thought the HD had died so he tried replacing it but it still didnt work. We put it on the back burner and never worried about it again. Until recently.

We had our company picnic a few weeks ago and with that came a ton of photos. There was also a Volleyball tournament where I took some pics. So this got me thinking about setting up another web server. So since Javier is no longer working with me I tried to make time to setup the Linux box again. I tried fixing the one I had before but it kept rebooting no matter what I did. I couldnt get past the setup screens. I finally gave up and went to my storage room where I dug up a Gateway machine I had once installed Suse 9 on. It was only lacking memory.

Lately, on the web I have been seeing a lot of articles on Ubuntu Linux. If I was doing this last year I would have used SuSe. But I wanted to know what all the hubbub was about. Ubuntu comes in 2 flavors; Desktop and Server. I downloaded the server version, which they call L.A.M.P. Linux Apache MySQL PHP. It was so easy to install. But then again, when it was done I was only left with a command prompt. No desktop whatsoever. No Gnome, No KDE.

KDE is my desktop of choice so I installed kubuntu which is KDE for Ubuntu. Installing was as simple as typing: apt-get install kubuntu-desktop. Had to run it twice though; I was getting timed out from the servers. That install took longer then the actuall OS install.

After the reboot, I had a pretty Ubuntu install running, PHP, Apache, and MySQL. My next thing to install was Webmin. Webmin is a web based administrative package that lets me configure things. Honestly, I havent used it to do much except to restart Apache and other processes.

So what is next? Well, I installed Gallery2. I was able to use Gallery2 this time around because MySQL is already installed. Following documentation from Gallery2 I created databases and installed Gallery2. I ran into one glitch where Gallery was complaining about my php.ini only allowing 8MB of memory for scripts. That was easily fixed by adding an htaccess file with the increased memory limit. Restarted Apache and I was good to go. Without that memory increase the Gallery installer would error out when it reached its limit.

Gallery2 is not as easy to configure as Gallery1, and in retrospect I should have gone with Gallery1 but I always want to use the latest and greatest. On this site I have a broken install of Gallery2. Grrr. Thats another story.

I tried to find a decent theme for the Gallery but I settled with the basic preloaded theme.

The next thing I wanted to get going was FTP. I have setup FTP Linux servers many times but I can never get it right the first time. I am using vsftpd. As of this writing I cant login! I wanted to FTP up the 6 or 700 photos in a zip file and then tell Gallery to unpack them. But that was a no go. So instead I used a Windows XP uploader that comes preinstalled with Gallery2. Its actualy pretty nifty. In the site admin of Gallery they give you instructions and a Reg file to install on your XP machine. What this does is makes your Gallery2 website and option when you click Publish These Files to The Web in Windows Explorer. I had all the pictures up in no time.

My next plan is to either install Joomla or Drupal. I used Joomla for this site for a few months and I am using Joomla on the companies website. I want to have a real Intranet site like many other businesses have. So when Javier comes back, I'll start up on that project.

I also need to create a backup solution for the Linux box. So if anyone out there is reading this with experience in backing up and restoring Linux please shed some light.

Mini Enchiladas

When I mentioned to Cindy, Robs sister, the Entomatada Recipe V gave me she suggested I try her very quick enchiladas.

Here is the recipe she gave me:

1. Lightly fry corn tortillas in medium-hot pan with oil. Just till
tender.
2. Let drain on plate with paper-towel.

3. Take all tortillas and roll one by one, filling each with chilli
con carne (any canned brand will do). (or, you could also
simply fill each one with cheese only)
4. After they are all rolled up, side by side in a baking dish,
top with more chilli con carne and then top with shredded
cheese.

Place pan in oven at 350 degrees till hot and melted. It will probably be around 15 minutes, or so.

When it comes to cooking stuff I try to follow directions to a T. I keep my Kitchen PC right by the stove so I brought up her email and kept it up just incase. I know, I know, its a simple recipe. But still.

Anyway, they came out very very good. Don't make me decide which I liked better; the enchililadas or the entomadas.

Entomatadas

So my dear friend V gave me a pretty simple recipe for entomatadas. You slightly fry some corn tortillas in oil and then dip them in into some preheated tomato sauce. I used a spicy one. Then roll them up and add cheese inside and out. I put them in the oven for a few minutes to melt the cheese.

It was a very different taste for me. Took me awhile to accept the taste. After three I added lettuce and tomato with some crackers and it was all good.

I love Memories. I just wish there were ways to relive those moments. And I don’t mean so that I can change the way things were. Maybe relive is the wrong word. I wish I could see memories as though I am watching a DVD. I wish I could have a DVD Memory Album in the same way we have Photo Albums. Except no camera person is needed. They are just recorded.

The really sad thing is that I don’t appreciate memories until I feel that the creation of new memories are in jeopardy. On happy days, I can walk around this house and NOT think about the fun we have had here. I can walk passed that bench and NOT think about the night we sat there holding each other. I can mow the grass and NOT think about that night we rolled around in it that one beautiful moon lit night. But when things are not going right, when the future is uncertain, when I am here wondering where you are it is all I think about.

I think about those memories and I so wish many more could be created here. Only time will tell and sometimes time is extremely slow for this heart of mine but time I got.

Man, who would have thought my Kitchen PC was worth this much:

This thing can be bought at Kuppersbusch.

It plays CD, DVDs, TV, and has internet access. It can be flush mounted in the kitchen. It also has a database of Recipes with photos. Hmmm, my Kitchen PC has a database of Recipes also. Its called Google!

I am sure it has its advantages over my Kitchen PC but when it comes down to it mine gets the job done!

Practically Finished Picture Frame PC

I say Practically finished because I dont have access to the USB port right now, which means no Keyboard and Mouse. I want this to be a Picture Frame second and a functioning PC first. This way I can get online, check recipes, or make Skype/Gtalk Calls from the kitchen. It is running wirelessly right now and I Remote into it to make changes.

Later, we might have to add better cooling since as it is now the fan keeps kicking on. It shutdown on me once, but it later came back on. I believe its because of the heat.

I also might get some sort of stand for it to bring it forward so that the power wire isnt so exposed. It is leaning on the wall right now.

It kicks ass.
It gave me something to look at while making spaghetti this afternoon. I mapped My Pictures off my HP PC and setup the screensaver to display those pics. It's an option under Screensavers.

Laptop Frame in the Making

Javier's Dell Dimension CPx recently became a paperweight so I tried to get it off of him. After weeks of giving him numbers he would not budge. Mind you, my prices were dropping as the days went by. :-)

Since he is about to have a baby and because he doesn't have a digital camera I decided to buy him one.
My plan was to offer a trade for the digicam and if he said no I would still give him the cam. But to my surprise he said yes and we traded. I also bought him lunch for two days.

I completely tore apart the laptop and still nada. I then noticed some corrosion near the power connector and proceeded to further take things apart. I read online about some similar issues with these laptops. It was going into a power loop with the screen not coming on at all. I also noticed some corrosion on the CMOS battery which was hiding under the palm pad. Following directions on the web I let it sit for a few days.
But even then there was still no power. Rob stopped by the house today and after seeing the corrosion by the power connector he was sure he had something to clean it up. He took the mobo and power with him and after a few minutes he called saying he had it up and running. I went over there with the screen and battery and tried to get XP up. I forgot the keyboard so Rob rushed back to my place on his Kawi and even though it took him five minutes to get back he bought dirt as soon as he got near his driveway. Sorry Rob! It'll buff out.
After fiddling with it we got XP up and running! I broke the news to Javier by calling him and asking for the password. It took a few seconds for it to click that it was up. It was funny. I recorded it but he you can barely hear him.

So hopefully this week it will all come together.]]>

Don't they look nice and smug in the garage? Usually the Corvette will be closer to the wall when I am not using her but I drove her all weekend so she is in an easy in and out position. There is still plenty of room in the garage no matter how I park them.

The above pic is a Panoramic by the way. Four pictures in one. It is my second attempt at the garage. The first attempt was all screwey. You have to make sure the camera is steady all the way through and it has to be level. I have a tripod but I still managed to hose the first shots. This one came out pretty good. I almost cant tell where the stitches are. I used HP Imaze Zone Plus which came loaded on the new pc. Click pic for HUGE pic.

8 mile

I think I found me a pretty good trek for my daily bike rides. Its around my neighborhood and the country club next door. I drove the trek today in the Vette and in the Colorado today and since I bike it twice it equals out to about 8 Miles. I think that is pretty good for me. Hopefully in a few weeks I can make that trek three times around and not be dead tired. Right now I make the trek in a little under an hour and afterwards I feel pretty damn good. The goal is to one day be able to do the biking in the mornings.

My friend George has asked me to bike with him and his brother at 7 in the morning but I don't think I can keep up with those guys. The trail they want to take has a lot of slopes. I used to ride it before and I would be huffing and puffing after every trip. If I keep my 8 mile trip going then maybe a trip down that trail in the future wont be as bad. I really need to improve my eating habits as well. Usually I will eat a banana before the ride and eat an orange afterwards followed by a shower. It seems to be working out. People always ask me if I am trying to lose weight. Of course, they are being sarcastic. I am just trying to get healthier and trying to give myself more energy.

Ice Screen

So far, I love it, except for two things. I wish it had more options for Video Output and as I write this it kind of wobbles with every key stroke. Or maybe I just tap to hard on this thing. Who knows. I just moved my keyboard to the under desk tray and it seems to have stopped the wobbling.

What do you think? It is an Envision model by the way. It is a little messy around my desk but I assure you it is only temporary.

I also wanted to talk about this cool little old ice crusher my dad gave me many years ago. I broke it out today because I WAS going to entertain a guest today but that fell through.

I have had this thing for so long but I never crushed anything with it. I must say it is pretty damn slick. It has three settings for crushiness. C, M, and F. They all looked the same to me so I kept it at M. I guess M is for medium. Maybe someone out there can enlighten me to the other settings. Now I am wondering if I can find other old stuff like this. I didn't use the flash so it looks orange but its stainless steel and black.

7 year PC upgrade in the making

For 7 years I was running a 700mhz Gateway. It ran a slew of operating systems in those seven years. It came loaded with Windows 98. After that it ran Windows 2000, Red Hat Linux, SuSe Linux, Xp Pro , and at the end it is running XP Pro Media Center Edition.

It was still running pretty strong but it couldn't handle video to well. In my X10 entry I talk about connecting wireless cameras and the Gateway just couldn't handle it properly. It also couldn't hand Video calls in Skype to well either.

So I decided to make a trek to CompUSA to see if this computer that I have been eyeballing got any cheaper. It is an HP Digital Enterntainment Center z545. Pentium 4HT 3GHz with 512 of RAM and a 200GB Hard drive. The thing is Media Center first and a PC second. It has all the features of a DVD player and DVR in one. If I wanted to I could record two tv stations and watch something else, all at the same time. By looking at the pics below you can see all the connections in the back. Everything from USB2.0 to Component Video and Audio, S-Video, Firewire, and on and on. In the front it has more USB and A/V connections. It also has all sorts of Memory Card slots and one big slot for an external Hard Drive. It even has an FM Tuner which you can Pause and Rewind.

This things is normally 1500 dollars but I got it for 800 smackers! It was the one on display. Awesome.

As you can see from the pics it comes with a Wireless keyboard and mouse. They kind of remind me of the Webtv days. I didnt like the keyboard much so I went out and bought another keyboard and mouse.

So, the only thing missing is a nice screen. I am still using the 7 year old CRT and it just doesnt cut it! Everything is to dark. I have everything all maxed out. Computer use is fine but DVD playback and TV are just to dark. I love it so far.

And more thing. Yes, that is a Wifi antennae.

Since I moved into this neighborhood I have always wanted to get back into riding my bike since its a pretty nice neighborhood; lots of trees and nice homes. So yesterday during lunch I took it over to Bicycle World to have it cleaned up. They call it an overhaul. They pretty much lubed it up, cleaned it up, and calibrated all sorts of stuff. The bike rode as good as new.

I went for a quick spin to Robs house and then cruised the neighborhood a little. I wasn't quite dressed for biking, white tee and khaki pants, so it wasn't that long of a ride. It was still nice and I hope to keep at it. I wish I was able to ride in the mornings but I am just to damn lazy for that. ]]>

An I-Zone is a Polaroid camera in which its pictures are taken on a small sticker.

For some reason the pictures I took came out with a sephia like tone to it. Maybe its because the film is so old. Its only a six picture sample anyway.

I also miss going outside to show off the gifts I got, whether they be big or small. Going out to play with cars or with a new bike. I get flashbacks when I leave the house on Christmas day and I see kids playing outside or riding shiny new bikes. You know what they got for Christmas.

The most toy like gift I got this year was a Telephone in the shape of a Corvette from Rob's girlfriend Christy. Last year I got some Hotwheels so that was cool

Strange Drean

I was at a house and people from work were there and we were opening Christmas gifts. I got some candy and a model Corvette that was very shiny. Like Paris Hiltons cell phones. A lot of people opened gifts but I wont go into the detail about what people got or were saying. All of a sudden there was a loud siren like sound and a bright flash. Up in the sky thier appeared to be a meteor or astroid falling from the sky heading towards us. Either it passed over us or crashed to the ground. It was very confusing. Several of these things flew through the sky and at one point I thought I was going to die because I said tell everyone I love them. I guess they never hit the ground but they left a streak through the sky. Kind of like the ones airplanes leave when they are flying real high. Something appeared to be falling from those streaks though. Falling the way blood drips on glass. It was almost clear but had bubble in the inside. Like the stuff in a lava lamp. At first we were scared but I made a motion for someone to reach up and touch it, and they did. It looked like it was harmless but then it attached itself to our fingers. It was doing something to us. I was the last one to get the upgrade. After awhile something or someone came on to the computer screen. It reminded me of a snake. A friendly snake. It was telling us how we just got the latest demo of some sort of mind enchancement project. It would let us use the full capacity of our brains I guess.

What was also weird was that I felt like that snake had communicated to us before and that we were aware of this whole project but it was the first time they had done something to us. After the broadcast on the television I found that I was able to tell the TV what station to change to, to play music, and to open the internet.

Other things were going on in the dream that I cant remember in detail but everyone was going on as normal. None of this was strange or scary. There was no presidential address or anthing.
Very Very Wierd. When I woke up I was a little relieved it was a dream.]]>

Betting on the Dogs

I have come close of course. Always coming up short one dog. Damn those dogs. As Rob said,"how freaking hard is it to pick three dogs". We usually bet whats called a Trifecta Box. You pick three dogs and they can come in in any order as long as they are in the top three. Its turning out to be a waste of money but it can be fun when your dogs are in the lead. I tell myself that at least I am not wasting this money on drinks!

Christy's sister is the only one that has picked all three dogs. Damn her!

My Brother the Father

Well, not a Father but a Pastor. My brother of 33 up and moved to Abbeville, Louisianna to be a pastor at a church there. Before he moved over there Hurrican Rita tore up the town pretty good so thats where the rebuilding comes in. He sent us the copy of the local newspaper where he is on the front page.

Wallpaper

I have never removed paper before so I didn’t think it was going to be such a pain. Rob started removing some of it while I was painting and he had a helluva time. After awhile he decided we needed some sort of remover. It only took me driving all over town to find that damn thing that scores the wallpaper. The chemical I applied after scoring the walls was a lot easier to find.

Since I am no good at this kind of stuff it still took me awhile get the stuff off the walls. It was a pain in the arse! I now have to buy something to patch up some of the sheet rock that got tore off during the removal. So that should be done today. I say SHOULD because nothing is every easy for me.]]>

Missing in Action

I was being pretty picky I guess but I was only looking for a two bedroom, or more, two bath, two car garage home on a quiet street. Out of the handful of homes that I saw two really stood out but one had the backyard against a very busy street and the other was very close to a high school. I honestly thought I was going to have to make a decision between those two homes. For two weeks, I didn’t go out looking for homes. The reason was that it was already Thanksgiving and many of the houses on the market I had already looked at. On December 9 I went to go see a home that eventually became the home I purchased.

The sale closed on February 3 and I have had the keys since the 6th of February but I have not moved in. I have been doing some remodeling and it is slow going. The painting I am doing should be done this weekend.]]>

First Night

As I went to bed, and I don’t remember the time, I started hearing noises. I would assume this is normal in a new home. I was hearing some sort of knocking sound though. A solid thunk-thunk. Laying there in bed, staring into the darkness, I told myself that it has to be one of the doors in which I left without doorknobs. I then told myself it has to be the door to the A/C unit because the unit is sucking the door closed, and it has no door knob. So, I went downstairs and temporarily put its doorknob in place. I stood there for awhile and it was no longer making the thunk sound. But, as I walked up the stairs I heard the thunks again and this time I could tell that it was coming from my master bath. As I approached the door I could hear it thunking. It has the doorknob but there is still some play. I opened it up and jumped back into bed and slept like a baby!

And that, ladies and gents, is my first night!

X10 Home Automation Project 1

X10 is a technology that transmits signals through your home’s electrical wiring. Usually, you will have a USB interface that connects to your computer and to a wall outlet. Using various programs you tell that interface to send commands to other X10 devices that are plugged into outlets throughout your home. For example, you can have an X10 Module plugged into a wall and a lamp plugged into that X10 Module. You can now tell your Interface to either turn on that lamp or dim it. It can be dimmed even if was never dimmable. But the technology doesn’t stop there. You have X10 motion sensors, X10 wireless cameras, dimmers, chimes, and so on and so on. The software loaded on the PC and onto the USB Interface is what brings it all together. With the software and interface you can automate everything that has an X10 Module connected to it.

So what did I do and what do I want to do with X10? Let me tell you.

I bought an X10 starter kit which would allow me to control a lamp and turn on an appliance with two sets of remotes. Before I even connected that, I bought a kit with a motion sensor, a chime, and a socket rocket (for a light bulb). THEN I purchased three wireless color X10 cameras. The remote lamp is working but the first little project I had was to get a sequence of events to happen when someone trigged a motion sensor. The software I purchased from www.X10.com called ActiveHome Pro came with a SmartMacros Plug-in. When I setup a macro I can tell it to do several things at once. I wanted a simple macro that when the motion sensor in the front of the house was triggered it would set off my X10 Chime, which I will place in the garage, and if its night time it will turn on one of the porch lights. Sounds simple enough, and with SmartMacro it’s supposed to be easy to setup.

Sadly, the documentation is close to nothing with the software. I relied on the forums at www.X10.com for info. I won’t go into too much detail but I had to create two macros. One that would turn on my light if it was night time and then shut it off five minutes later. Then I created another macro that would set off the chime every time the motion sensor was triggered. After a lot of configurations and with help from the forums I was able to get it all going by creating a 2 second delay before the porch light got the signal to turn on. Without that delay only one macro would run depending on which was listed first.

The next project is to add macro to turn on the camera, take a picture or video, and email it to me so I can see who is or was at my door. But I had to order one additional part for the cameras. A Video to USB adapter. The cameras I bought are intended to record to VCR, whatever that is.

So that was fun and I can’t wait to X10 every light in the house.]]>

I have used two seperate Content Management Systems but they are both very slow. One was Geeklog and the other Joomla. Joomla was working very well at first but then it became very slow for me and for the few people that check out the site. I then recently updated the SMF Forums and Joomla and a lot of things broke and there doesnt seem to be a fix out there yet. So I think I am finally going to switch over to this very simplistic Blog by Blogger, which is owned by Google. The root cause of my problems is probably my host, which is Powweb. They just got bought out and will be moving servers so maybe that will make things better. I will be keeping my Joomla site online but any visit to digisal.com will bring you here.

I am going to keep the forums and the arcade so you should be seeing links to them to the right in a few days. The Gallery will be linked as well.

I will slowly try to edit the template to my liking. This template is one that I found awhile back and suits my needs for now.
