Usenet Slowdown
« on: January 09, 2004, 03:41:33 am »
Right before I left Austin I noticed a dramatic decrease in download speed from the RoadRunner servers. According to thier network status page they were working on it. Well, since i got online last week Usenet downloads have been slow here also. I learned that all Texas RoadRunner Usenet connections end up in Austin, and there is either some problem or this is a crackdown on Usenet downloading.

Only time will tell I now.

Lately I have been downloading smaller files, but everynow then i'll download a 750 MB file. Who know how long that will take now.

Patience I guess.

Things seem to be speeding up a little. Managed to download a 200mb file in about 45 minutes or so. Still slow, but at least the numbers were flying almost continuosly(sp?).

Hopefully this is a sign of things getting back to a normal download pace.

you know, i noticed that too.  my game wouldnt run very fast and my download speeds on kazaa were in the 17kb/s range.  now im getting the usual 64+ on most downloads, but i still notice a slight dip in the evenings.

It's from all the new people who received computers and msntv's for christmas.  Just about this time every year you'll notice a slowdown as they start getting brave with the new toy and actually begin to explore the world of the web.
