Hard Drive Failure
« on: October 20, 2002, 11:20:51 am »
so there i was. reading email and listening to Kenney Chesney Friday afternoon before going to clarse, when my PC turned off with no warning at all.

i figured it would kick back on but nope. Thats when i smelt something. It was the smell of something burning. YIKES!

I opened her up and there was no smoke, but when i removed the hard drive and filpped her over this is what i saw.

"CRAP!" is what i said.

I called Gateway, and they going to send me a new one, but what about all my crap?! damnit, lost.

Before i send this hard drive back i am going to look for someone who can retrieve that data out of there. I believe one of my instructors mentioned he knew someone. This sux.

so I have an 1 gig hard drive laying around that i wanted to install on the pc for the hell of it, but i couldnt get it to see the partitions i was making. When i would put the drive back in the pc it belonged to it would see the partitions i made. Odd.

oh well.

well i was hoping they would send me the exact same hard drive as the replacement, but they sent me an ibm deskstar, 20gigs.

i put three partitions on her, c:4 d:6 e:10, give or take.

i am going to dick around with dual booting later on.

i accidently dual booted win98 and win2k on the same partition earlier. i am redoing it now. just win2k though.

thats my story....so far.

a clean install of win2k, no software what so ever took up zactly one gig. i hace since then placed a little less then 1 gig of apps in here:

Office XP (word,excel,powerpoint,outlook)
Photoshop 7 (got to learn how to use this, i use the easy features!  :P )
Dreamweaver MX (same as above)
Trillian Pro
Winamp 2.81 (got winamp3 on the laptop, its alright)
Partition Magic 7 (didnt use it to partition, have it for futer use)
WS_FTP95 LE
Nero 5.5.2.2.3
Kazaa 2 (couldnt find the one before this one)
PowerDVD 4 Deluxe.

One or two apps i have yet to install.
